RogueScholar faces trespassing charges & Jail time
NEW YORK -- A New York City man arrested for running onto the court at the U.S. Open to kiss Rafael Nadal will be charged with trespassing and faces possible jail time if convicted, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Noam U. Aorta (AKA "RogueScholar") dashed out of the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium just after midnight on Wednesday after Nadal advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Gael Monfils, prosecutors said. Aorta ran onto the court, then hugged and kissed the Spanish star as he was changing shirts on the sideline before security guards took him into custody, they said.

"For me, it wasn't a problem. The guy was really nice," Nadal said. "He said, 'I love you,' and he kissed me."

LOL! This thread rocks. I have to admit I was watching it last night live and I thought that while security was exposed for being completely inadequate (they have enough people, but they act like spectators watching the action instead of focusing on controlling the crowd and securing the court) the guy seemed really nice and I was jealous of him being able to hug and kiss a shirtless Rafa. I'd pay untold thousands for an experience like that.

They really need to hire better people to work security, though. First Federer gets accosted at Roland Garros and now this incident last night prove that we need actual law enforcement protecting these players and not a bunch of PeeMike's with paper badges. There should be a couple loaded shotguns and all the guards should have handguns and stuff like this won't happen anymore.

Have people really forgotten about the stabbing of Monica Seles in Germany back in '93? Bad things can and do happen when obsessed people aren't afraid to attempt to get within striking distance of famous people. It does say good things about our justice system that he is being detained and prosecuted, though. The man who stabbed Seles was given a short stay in a psychiatric ward and two years probation, and this was an actual stabbing!

Seles never returned to Germany because of that, and I hope the gravity with which a simple invasion of personal space is being handled by our law enforcement leaves Nadal feeling comfortable playing in our country for many years to come.

the man who stabbed seles was completely insane ,
so he was only conviceted to 2 years on probation , because of his mental illness .
Besides he didn't even hurt her that much , her physical injuries were harmless,
i guess if that incident had occured in the us , the man would have been sent to the death row .

It really is ridiculous that there aren't uniformed law enforcement officers guarding the North and South wing of the court, it shouldn't be up to the Arthur Ashe stadium higher ups to appoint in-house 'security' to guard the court, the tennis commission or whoever it is that issues suspensions when players are caught using copious amounts of cocaine need to step in and regulate security for all Grand Slams. These rent-a-cop's need to be at the disposal of trained and highly skilled law enforcement professionals, standing there with a yellow shirt and arms tucked under your pits just isn't good enough. These guys have the reaction time of a blonde at the tail-end of a punchline. Let's be a little more professional and ensure our tennis players are NOT in harm's way, as has been the case the past 2 of 3 Grand Slam events.

I believe that when our country holds an Open tournament and invites the best tennis players in the world to our largest city, we should be conscientious hosts and do everything within our power to ensure their safety. To not have uniformed police officers and Department of Homeland Security officials physically present on-court to respond to incidents is plainly negligent. I think Lou's right that the ITF needs to lay down some minimum guidelines for security at Slams, but we should lead by example and change our own procedures preemptively.

It's a travesty that this has happened twice this year already.

It's not as bad as the guy who stabbed Seles basically escaping without punishment, but it's pretty bad that the two biggest stars in tennis have had their safety compromised while on the court.

One would think that after the Federer incident at the French Open, the security personnel at the US Open would be alert and prevent people from getting to the players. Terrible job.
