    betworks back in biz!
It looks like they will be reopening betworks once again in roughly 9 days.

    02.08.2007 (05:15 PM CST)

    BetWorks (SBR rating C+)
to launch new web platform in 10 days. The Australian-based sportsbook has been off-line since October of 2003 when it settled all player accounts and ceased operating. Euraust, formerly the bookmaker’s parent company, has since sold Betworks to an Asian investment group. The site quietly came back online in 2006 planning to relaunch with a focus on soccer. Betworks is a small bookmaker that remains located and regulated in Australia.

I used to play here quite a bit and really enjoyed this book. When they closed they were at least very honorable about paying all their balances off.I hope they will still take U.S. customers.

Hi. Thanks for letting us know.

What caused them to close shop for a few years?

As a business they were underfunded and couldn't compete so they bowed out.

I think at that time it was Pinnacle, Canbet, Betworks, and BetAustralia for reduced juice. Only a few but they all had different numbers then.

They might take a shot with Americans for a few months to see if they can make a few bucks but no market anymore and no way to fund.

I registered a new account there today. They don't take credit cards from U.S.I guess only way to fund is check or money order. The only option available for currency used there is AUD so I don't think this will work out for me as I must deposit with AUD currency.

Something doesnt smell right here. Players should really be careful here in the short run.

They couldnt compete before with Pinnacle so it makes sense they would take another shot in a Pinny-less enviroment. But as Bill stated, they were under funded before although certainly honorable. But now they re enter the market at the slowest part of the season? And take on the sharps in bases with a questionable bankroll? Lets see them make it to at least football.

All of which would be fine, except this is actually about to be the high season in Australia where AFL, NRL, Super14's et al are about to go into full swing.

And they're clearly not aiming at US punters, so why would they care about it being the slow season stateside?

Well lets see where they focus. They care because the US market is maybe 100x larger than those you mentioned combined. Thats where they focused before.

Now if they stop taking US players they would at least eliminate many of the dangerous baseball arb players that will feast on every miscue.

Not offering US$ as a betting currency is a pretty good sign they don't intend to focus on Americans, no?

Edit: That may not be accurate, going on the info above, they do list a US$ bank account to deposit into.

Also I think Aussie regulation is as safe, if not more so, than any country in the world.

As part of the player safeguards, Betworks has a statutory obligation to hold all player funds on deposit in segregated client wagering bank account(s). At all times, the balance of the client wagering bank account(s), held by Betworks is required to equal or exceed the balance of client wagering accounts, maintained within our wagering system. On a monthly basis, the company is required to provide evidence to the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission, demonstrating compliance with the bank account/client wagering statutory obligations. The funds standing to the credit of the player wagering account bank accounts do not form part of the assets of the bookmaking company

I would agree with that statement Mr.Santo.

Australia is probably one of the most, if not the most regulated countries in the world.

As a player, I feel safe playing at Australian Books only because of the way they regulate the gambling procedure.

I wish many other countries would follow their procedure.
