I have an ex high school history teacher, baseball, football and hockey coach as a friend who's been involved with the Jerry Lewis MS dealies since it's inception. He's a bachelor guy and gives tons of money to it and alot of his time every summer at summer camp for it.About 3 years ago all the volunteers were told that they had to undergo extensive background checks to be involved with the kids at camp.It pissed him off but he went through with it.After being in the charity for 37 or whatever years,I would have told them to take a hike. Now he's got Parkinson's disease and still is involved. You can't even raise a question about the charity's legitimacy with him and he takes offense to it.
I know some of the money goes to letting the kids go to summer camp, paying for travel expenses for them to get treatment and to help with buying wheelchairs which is good. The thing I don't understand is how Jerry rants like he's a televangelist or Amway convention guru every year for 36 hours that a cure is nearly here for MS.I just don't see it and no one ever says, some things are just meant to be and why give false hope to people who have MS.To me,it's total denial on Jerry Lewis's behalf and the kids with MS and their parents are sort of being used as props to raise money.
