This guy makes everyone puke. He says and makes up things that are incorrect that every viewer can see.

I don't think he's that bad, but been around too long. They need to change it, but CBS only has the SEC one more year, so they will ride it out with him.

People love Kevin Harlan, I don't get it. He's so annoying, yelling and screaming on every play.

I personally love the guy.
Harlan isn't nearly as over the top as Gus Johnson is, Gus oozes hyperbole, and unlike Johnson, Harlan amuses me.
I like to be entertained.
Two more points, Harlan does not take himself that seriously, he's constantly poking fun at him self, and he's always well prepared going into a particular event he's going to call.

At the end of the day, where the rubber meets the road, it all comes down to personal preference as to what you want in a sports broadcaster.

It's like music, some like speed metal, some like alt/indie, whatever the case you can't jump ugly on somebody's else's opinions.

Some love Johnson, some hate him, whatever the case, you have to respect the other individuals opinion,

Danielson's blatant rooting for Alabama is unprofessional. He used to be a good announcer but now is a puppet to promote SEC crap.
He never gives the other team credit at all during their games and gets excited at simple plays when Bama gets a 1st down.

If he was paired with Chris Fowler it would be unbearable. Fowler makes so many errors announcing that its a comedy show.

Cope was an alcoholic. People in Pittsburgh think he’s a god mostly. When he was around, everyone I knew would put on the radio and listen to him and mute the tv.

Stop it. Pittsburgh legend. Jack Fleming his early partner was a consummate professional. Then Cope was his antagonist. It was great radio.

I love collage football to me no other sport comes close!
People complain about to many bowls, not me Im just happy a game is on most times!
BUT, THERE IS CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH GOOD announcer to cover 41 nationally televised bowl games!

I turned the TV volume down on several this year. One example they were asking the sideline guy a question, then figured out they didn't have one, this turned in to a ten-minute joke! One other quick one, quarterback throws a pass, hits the receiver in the chest guy drops the ball, announcer calls it a 50/50 ball

I immediately change the fukin channel when I hear her mono tone commentary.

it sounds like she has rocks or sunflower seed in her mouth as she speaks. a voice is huge in announcing. joe buck and troy aikman may not be the best, but they have great voices for announcing games. Madden was once in a lifetime and Pat Summerall knew how to set it up for big John to knock it down. it was like johnny carson and ed mcmahon for the guys over 45 that understand that reference. I grew up watching Tim McCarver and he did a great job with the mets and those very good teams.

i'm assuming these are your favorites. Harland has the voice. Gus does what he does. makes a high school game sound like the nba finals. brent and his 'we are looking live' and old school cbs basketball intros were the best. Madden and Summerall goes without saying...and i think the nba pregames in the jordan era with ahmad rashad and the guys can never be duplicated. that theme music just got you excited. still have no idea who the voiceover guy was.

Goes back to the 1980 Olympic hockey. He knew it was historic. Result worked out just perfect for the Home team.

If there's a big game, Al Michaels would be the guy you want on the call.

I loved the 90s on NBC with that music. So much fun watching the Rockets back 2 back titles during that era. The Euros coming into the league has really added such an interesting dynamic to the league.

I worked with a guy in 1996 that went to Syracuse and he said "Mike Tirico is the biggest asshole ever." I didn't even know much about him at that point, but read up on what Tirico was doing at ESPN in the 1990s with female staffers and you'll be shocked. He obviously cleaned up his act, but if he did today what he did then, he'd be a weekend sports anchor at best.

Jack, I used to watch/listen to a lot of games. Not so much anymore.

There are a few things that show me an announcer is well-prepared:
1) Pronunciation of players w/ odd-ball names. You don't want to make yourself look bad on this.
2) Player bios. If you know who the key players figure to be, want to have some background on them.
3) Need to know something about the backup if they are thrust into duty. Most obvious is backup QB. Don't want to be caught off guard.

The best announcer is incredibly well-prepared. Michaels knew that US hockey team inside and out. A young Bob Costas was very well-prepared.

The best announcer is informing the viewer. You want to tell the viewer something he might not have already known.

As lopsided as the TCU/Georgia game was, McDonough/Blackledge did a pretty good job on the player bios. And that's an impossible situation, b/c the game was dead at halftime.

Take it from a stats/analytical guy his whole life, McDonough has his head buried in a stat sheet on pretty much every play he often misses calls because of it or makes his calls very uneven.

I pretty much respect every thing Tony Dungy has accomplished in his life, but let's face facts, he's an awful listen tonight with Al.
