It's a math conversion problem and the two, +3 and the ML, can be the same answer. If not, you take the one that is "off".

But let's not get professionally technical and keep it simple.

If Gold takes Cinci +3 he is not just looking for Cinci to lose by 1 or 2 points. Gold wins if Cinci wins and he pushes if Cinci loses by 3.

You can nearly capture 1/4 of all NFL results with a 1, 2 or 3 point margin of victory.

You can worry about making the bet that wins tonight, or you can worry about making winning bets.

Bettors must one day make that choice.

But to say that a bettor taking +3 is "hoping" for a 1 or 2 point loss isn't even close to correct, or logical.

I took Bengals +3 and the ML +145. This is going to be a close game though would've liked the +3.5 that was available earlier in the week but I think the Bengals are live to get a win here so I'm hoping the points don't matter.
