I never understood the eating and football thing
Why dont people eat when they watch sitcoms, or baseball or basketball?
Why football?

Its a cultural thing... we've all kind of been brought up that football is an EVENT. Kind of like as kids we have McDonalds' Golden Arches ingrained in our heads, 100's and 1000's of beer commercials with all the guys hanging out eating snacks and drinking beers becomes so locked into our psyche that the two seem to go hand in hand.
That said, when you are a fat bastard like me, it is also sitcoms, basketball, and baseball too .

Dave, how about eating healthy snacks?
I have an Orville Redenbocker popcorn machine for the microwwave.........just uses a dash of olive oil and couple drops of water.........very healthy and fills you up.
As far as beer, limit yourself to no more than 3 per day, preferably a "light" beer of some kind with no more than 110 calories per bottle.

VD, I am a phucken ripped ATH-AH-LETE and I eat whatever the PHUCK I want with the game! You just have to control the QUANTITY and go for a good hard run, or some phcuken hill training, or do 100 phucken Turkish getups, etc the morning of to reb up your metabolism, pal! A cheat meal is good for the mind and the body, son! BE LIKE BUZZY! Just tape up my phucken hot bod pic I posted yesterday on your bathroom mirror for inspiration.
Try this though if you havetah skip the beer n hotdog chit:
Deli meat instead of chips
Prime rib in lieu of hot dogs
Vanilla vodka in diet coke instead of beer

Many cannot stop at 3 beers FH. When you get to three it might as well be 14.

Dave, do you exercise much?
I highly recommend a simple routine of "walking 30-45 minutes" a day..........which should be easy to do with the climate your in.
Walking is tremendous in so many ways, a couple being it is something that is not going to get you injured and an activity that is actually enjoyable when compared to using stairmaster, doing sit-ups, or jogging.
Hope this helps,
FH

I think this is definitely the end game... but I've got so damn much to lose that exercise alone wasn't going to get it done. Soon I'll be able to transition to eating a bit more of what I like more regularly, but huge life changes don't come without sacrifice.

This is really great advice. I don't exercise nearly enough and need to get back in the habit. Walking might be a good way to ease into it as it is less intimidating then some more intense regiments, like the buzzy special .

The tough thing is I'll never be able to truly "eat what I want", because without any censor of when I'm "full", I can just keep on eating and when I give myself the green light to, I do. I've gained 10 pounds in a day more than once, and that wasn't even pushing any limits.
I have to live my life in moderation, or give in to morbid obesity. Won't ever be a time where I can eat enough to feel satisfied without digging my own grave in my 40's

Dave, another great thing about walking is that you can gather your thoughts about certain subjects(gambling) as you do it and this helps one make rational decisions more often.

Eating healthy actually helps the mood. Amazing how much better you feel 70 pounds lighter and without buckets of grease streaming through you .
Most days it doesn't bother me. Just night's like tonight where I'd love nothing more than to order a pizza and a bucket of chicken and down a dozen beers, a subway sandwich and one beer doesn't quite measure up!

I'm a fat guy, Dave. I try and walk every night though and if nothing else, it helps me feel a little better since I am putting in some effort. Having back surgery put me on the walking routine. I do a minimum of 30 mins each session. Prior the injury, I rode a stationary bike for 30-40 mins daily.

Why don't you try retraining your associations?
Tonight, to go along with the event that is opening night in NCAAF, why don't you try something else, like lighting some candles, putting on some soft mood music. Anoint yourself with essential oils and anoint the room with balancing aromas. Set out some light snacks like steamed edamame, steamed vegetables with alfalfa, and drink things like ginger tea and do shots of wheatgrass.
It may seem funny at first, but maybe after a while you won't be able to imagine watching football any other way.

Hot dogs don't taste as good if there's not a baseball game in front of me.
Exercises -- Lots of stationary bike and a few weights, plus general situps/walking -- have helped me control my own weight struggles, and for all of you younger guys the best advice I can give you is find something to help control it now before you get to be an old fart like me.
General, I was having a lot of lower back trouble about a year ago and I credit the fact I no longer am to the exercise ball I use 4-6 times a week. Just laying on that thing and taking a 5-LB weight in each hand, throwing my hands together then above me, plus doing situps on the ball has my lower back in great shape right now.

More realistically, it would be a triple cheeseburger, large fry, chicken sandwich... bag of doritos, and 5-10 beers.
Wait, that isn't much better is it?
