New here, any helpful tips

Stumbled upon the site a few weeks ago and have been reading some of the stuff and enjoying it for the most part. Don't get a lot of the friendly banter and needling. Any tips and helpful hints to get the most out of the site would be helpful. I hope to contribute as well, to be honest I'm a better writer than a handicapper.

The forum software automatically resizes any image I use for an avatar. Some have mentioned having to resize it themselves. Maybe it's a browser issue? I use Firefox.
