Damn. That movie “Thief” was excellent. Also when he played the Jewish wise guy. Obviously Sonny from The Godfather. I just re watched that episode of Sopranos where they are beefing with the Native Americans over Columbus Day and they try to stop the protest by telling them they are gonna reveal that Cody guy wasn’t Native. “Did you tell him about the Cody thing?” “Yeah, but it’s like finding out James Caan isn’t Italian”

I think he was the only Jew in Godfather. Everyone else was Italian for the most part.

Read a few 'Godfather' stories about "Sonny" vs "Carlo". The fight where Sonny threw the trash can cover at Carlo was real. Caan hated that actor, for various reasons. Broke Carlo's rib, and they finished on the 1st take.

Was just thinking...have to go back and re-watch "The Gambler". That was a very REAL movie. Back when they made real movies.

I used to wonder about the sequence where Jerry West missed the two FTs to blow the cover. I thought it may have been a Chick Hearn clip from a real game. But it wasn't, Hearn narrated for a fake ATS ending.

Really eh? I knew the actor that played Carlo had some connections to the Mob. Didn't know Caan hated the guy though.

Do you remember the gangster that strangled Luca Brasi with piano wire? That fella apparently was killed by Mobsters in real life.

James Caan is easily in my top ten, much more than a character actor, he was much more than a mob role player.
He did Neil Simon productions, he did Brian's Song, damn, loved that guy.

To me, even more than Sonny, he'll always be Ed Deline.

I was wrong about one thing. He said they shot it 15x, not once. But note how "Carlo" talks about Caan really injuring him during the scene. The venom was real.

Yes, guy was a wrestler in true life, a real powerhouse. Luca Brasi from the book is an even bigger animal. Totally inhumane.
