Who lives in Reno/Tahoe area , just how are the living conditions
Seriously contemplating a move away from SoCal within the next 5 years. Maybe sooner. In 5 years I will be officially retired drawing SS & a pension.

SoCal is beautiful and been my home for 20yrs but I'm just sick of the cost of living and the future doesnt look good.

    I'm looking for a move.

I don't live there but one of my best friends lives in Reno. He and his wife love the place. I've been out to visit a couple times in the past year or so and I like it too. There are a lot of options. You've got world class skiing/boarding a half hour in practically every direction. You've got casinos....sports books. The weather is great. It gets cold in the winter but it's a dry cold. I was out there in February and it was 20 degrees with a foot of snow on the ground, but I was out in short sleeves. Weird. 20 degrees where I live and I'm bundled up in a jacket and a beanie.

moved here for school.... now work for the university.
Reno is ok, I could personally take it or leave it, coming from Portland and all. It has its ups, but it can be a real downer as well, I thoroughly enjoy getting the hell out of here.
Housing market has dived so there are lots or at least a good amount of deals right now

Look toward the south side of town since the freeway now extends there. You can get most anywhere in town within 15 minutes.

Mex-Americans do as well or poorly as anyone else. Illegals live poorly as a whole but usually better than where they came from.

the Reno/Tahoe area? If you wanted to get back to being closer to the ocean, I can understand that. But, R/T is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Reno IS small, but I really like it, wish I'd moved there.

i used to live in south lake tahoe and loved it, very fun place, cheap when i rented and i was like 1/4 mile from the stateline on ca side, id move to nevada for tax reasons though but weater is pretty extreme in winter but i loved it cause id board every day then summer id party on the lake and the casinos are a year round party, a good place to retire but now im in so cal like 1/4 mile from the ocean and love it, i think both have benefits for sure..

I live in costa mesa, ca and going to be moving end of this month to Reno area closer to Mt. Rose. I have lived in so cal my whole life and it is great but I think reno/tahoe has a lot to offer especially if you like the outdoors and the casinos are right down the way. Cheap real estate, cheap gas, less taxes, more space, fewer crowds, no traffic, what more could you ask for. Anyway I obviously think you have a great idea. Good luck in whatever you choose.
