Just curious what others have to say on this. I mean do you think this is sound betting or just more less a fun diversion to keep things interesting for the whole year. I don't think it hurts to throw $20 on something on say a team to win the NCAAF championship at 15-1 odds or something. Any opinons on this.

By the way, I'll say Texas 12-1 for my NCAAF champions this year anyone else want to share their pick

I do not like a book holding my money for the whole year

Although another way to look at it is just bet some season win totals and then do not bet anything else as it is like you have bets ever night or every week depending on the sport.

I bet some season win totals one year and I didn't even come close...I really didn't like the experience. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever won a future bet either. I think I'll stick to straight gambling, 11/10 odds with a 50/50 chance of winning

I usually bet season total wins futures. Sofar it looks like I should win all three. I usually break even when it comes to football futures though.

The only time I have had a futures bet in recent memory was when Canbet gave me a free one right around one year ago. I took Kansas City to win last year's Super Bowl. It did add some interest for awhile there (before it became apparent their defense totally SUUUUUUUCKED).

I don't mind the idea of little recreational futures bets; I just never seem to think of doing it. I don't see myself ever doing any serious research on it and placing bigger wagers.

I frequently see arbs and various money-making angles on futures bets but I don't like to tie up money for that long.

I don't like to tie up much money either. Most of my futures bets are very small.

We agree on Tex. Here are my futures.

Purdue +500 to win Big Ten: There are 4 possible teams that can win the Big Ten

                1. Ohio State- But they play Mich and Iowa.
                2. Mich- But they play Ohio St and Iowa.
                3. Iowa- But they play Mich, Ohio St and Purdue.
                4. Purdue - They only have to play Iowa and it's at home.

Purdue lost 4 games by a total of 10 pts. They then lost a Bowl Game by 4 pts. With some luck they could have been undefeated. They do lose Horton but Kirsch looked good when Orton was injured.

On defense Purdue returns 9 starters from a team that allowed 3.12 yds/rush and was 2nd in the Big Ten in that category.

                ---------------------------------------------------------------

LSU +204 to win SEC : All players on O except the QB are coming back and Russell split time at QB meaning the whole offense is coming back. LSU was the #1 rushing team in the SEC last year.

On defense they lose 3 players and were the #1 rush D in the SEC

LSU's three toughest games are against Fla, Aub and Tenn. All three games are at home.

                ----------------------------------------------------

Tex +170 to win Big 12 and +1200 to win it all: Texas was 11-1 last year with it's only loss to Oklahoma. Oklahoma was loaded last year and lost almost the whole team to the NFL.

Heisman candidate QB Young returns. He's a dangerous runner who ran for 1079 yds at 6.5 yds/carry with 14 TDs. Young broke a Rose Bowl record last year in total offensive yards. Tex was the #1 rushing team in the Big 12 avg 299 yds/game.

They return 8 starters on a D and are a very strong on both the OL and DL. Steele has the Tex D line rated #2 in the country.

This is the year that Tex finally beats Okl and gets their shot at a National Championship.

I like Texas but that is kind of a short price. The horns are very young and could trip and I dont think 12-1 is a great price. Everyone here is talking about how much better the D is. This is a good team but skilled position players are all green except the stud qb.

I'll give you three excellent long shots and they are all from the south: Tenn at 15-1 Georgia at 33-1 and Auburn at 55 -1. These guys were hurt by graduation but Ga is deep as can be and tenn is the real deal. Aub at 55-1 is the best value play on the board.

I was looking at all those SEC teams too. SEC and Big Ten are tough this year.

I like futures because it gives you action the entire season.

However, like Mr. Cole said, I don't like the book holding my money for that long.

Future bets are fun, but thats about it for me.. I could never bet large amounts, or be very serious about them..
