How far will jjgold get in the 128 Man Handicapping Tournament?
I'm booking action on jjgold's performance. Limits and payouts for each bet are stated below. I obviously don't have tons of SBR points but I expect to get approximately even action so I'll be gaining points from posters who lose their bets and giving those points to those who win their bets. These odds are a total shot in the dark as we don't know the rules or opponents yet but it'll be fun to try being a bookie for the first time. All bets are final. If you edit the post that contains your bet, your bet will become an automatic loser. These odds are subject to change at any time. Rules for rounding payouts: 14.50 to 14.999... = 15, 14.4999... to 14.0 = 14, etc.

    Explanation of the lines:

    If you bet on this:

jjgold eliminated in the round of 32

    No -450
    Yes +400

If you choose "No" that means that if he's eliminated in any round except the round of 32 then you win. So, if you want to bet he doesn't advance to the sweet 16 for example, then you'd bet No on the sweet 16 line:

jjgold eliminated in the sweet sixteen

    No -700
    yes +600

If you bet No on that, it means you think he'll be eliminated before the sweet 16 or after the sweet 16 but he won't be eliminated exactly in the sweet 16.

How far will jjgold get in the 128 Man Handicapping Tournament?

    jjgold wins tournament

No -2000 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 1)
Yes +1500 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 300)

    jjgold eliminated in the final

No -1800 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 1)
Yes +900 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 180)

jjgold eliminated in the final four

No -1500 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 1)
Yes +800 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 160)

jjgold eliminated in the elite eight

No -1000 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 2)
Yes +700 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 140)

jjgold eliminated in the sweet sixteen

No -700 (Max bet: bet 140 points to win 20)
yes +600 (Max bet: bet 20 points to win 120)

No -450 (Max bet: bet 90 points to win 20)

    jjgold is not the favorite.

I am confident that he will not make the final four.

That's no way to talk about the poster of the year. He's the favorite until someone knocks him off, just ask Nicky Santoro. I hope he chimes in on this topic.

I'm assuming there is no action if he doesn't play and you will pay out on a payment plan if you get hammered? I'll take no on "jjgold eliminated in the round of 128" at -110 for the max (22 to win 20) ...

                    Right and right.

That bet is actually 20 to win 18. You can bet up to 20 SBR points on this (one bet per poster).

you also might want to adjust your no odds further up before non-suckers like me get ahold of them... Coach is clearly the favorite but I'm pretty sure there is some slight value betting no to win in a 128 man field at -1000... Might want to add some zeros on some of those...

I'm not too worried with a limit of 20 SBR points per bet. A bet at -700 to -1000 pays 2 to 3 points, I don't think many people will be interested. If I get hammered the odds will change fast.

yisman doesn't think so. I bet he'd make a big SBR points bet with you on that.

I can see this is the feeling of the majority (including me) so the odds have changed:

jjgold eliminated in the round of 128

                              No -150
                              Yes +130

All bets are final of course.

SBR employees are not usually allowed in contests (except as a side-thing in Beat The Prick where they aren't interfering with the customers). Are all the SBR people in this 128 man thing? I really don't know.

I would guess jj will come up with some zany reason to pull out. Having jj in the contest would be like a restaurant having a contest and giving the prizes to their waitresses. Not generally SBR's style.

And I want to bet he doesn't advance to a certain point. Any lines on that? These one round bets are jacked.
You can bet up to 20 points. Maybe you don't understand these lines. For example, if you bet on this:

jjgold eliminated in the round of 32

                                        No -240
                                        Yes +200

If you choose "No" that means that if he's eliminated in any round except the round of 32 then you win. So, if you want to bet he doesn't advance to the sweet 16 for example, then you'd bet No on the sweet 16 line:

jjgold eliminated in the sweet sixteen

                                        No -500
                                        yes +300

If you bet No on that, it means you think he'll be eliminated before the sweet 16 or after the sweet 16 but he won't be eliminated exactly in the sweet 16.

                                        Make sense?

I will not bet on these bogus lines. How am I supposed to know exactly which round he'll be eliminated in? And the no does not pay out anything worthwhile.

I will instead offer to bet anyone that jjgold does not make the Sweet 16.

                                                      I am taking no.

I am offering yes at +300.

fearless said jjgold is the clear favorite, so it should be a given that he'll reach the Sweet 16. Clear favorites don't bow out early.

If you want to make that bet, you can make it here, take No on this line:

jjgold eliminated in the sweet sixteen

                                                        yes +600

Taking No on that line means that you're saying jjgold won't reach the sweet 16 (you also have the added insurance that just in case he makes it to the sweet 16, if he wins that round you'll also win the bet).

the odds are pretty slanted, but I guess I'll take it.

Betting to win 20 points that jjgold is not eliminated in the Sweet 16.

I guess I would owe you 140 points if he was.

If I change the rules so you can bet to win 20 points on a dog and you can bet up to 20 points on a favorite
Pretty sure you mean the other way around.

To win 20 on a favorite and risk 20 on a dog.

Counting all my wins today, I still have about 225 more to risk with anyone who wants to wager with me on the outcome of this contest.
