    OT: Losing your cell phone
Ever lose your cell before - is there anything worse?

Aside from all my contacts on it, private photos etc. I've tried to retrace my steps and if it isn't in the local supermarkets lost and found, I guess I'll have to call and deactivate the # and pay for a replacement.

    Was an I-Phone too.

Yep it sucks bad. Usually lose 1 or 2 a year (usually at wedding receptions and whatnot where I end up hammered)

Lost mine at the bash but got lucky when the cab driver answered it the next day.

        I didn't know that.

Is there a specific folder I can access now that I can see all of my stuff? I did have it hooked up to iTunes but never configured anything through my PC other than that, and charging phone.

And would this hold true even if I had my # changed? I wouldn't want my old # active if some knucklehead picked it up.

I hate the feeling! I am extremely careful with my Iphone now, I have lost a few phones over the years. I hope you get it straightened out!

There are some photos I'd rather others not see, although the photos I appear in I'm fully clothed, fortunately.

This thread is disturbing especially after meeting Lou and thinking about the photos that could possibly be on that phone....even more disturbing is thinking about who he is sending those photos to...

Oh Loubert, I feel for you. Mr. Nina loses his at least twice a year. He is all the time asking me to resend pictures to his new phone.

Now where are my 25 points?

Oh one of my nephews threw mine in the toilet the other night. I dried it out and it is still working. LOL. I figured since it survived the sand and salt water dunking it got at the beach earlier this summer that a toilet wasn't nothing.

yer correct, if you can snatch it fast enough, it'll still work. but I'm not dunking my precious hands in a pissy holein the wall bars toliet w/ turds floating.
dropped 1 of mine in the creek fishing 1 day and grabbed it before the 5 sec rule.
took 2 days to dry out but still worked although it did some strange things when prsseing certain buttons

There was no pee in the toilet. Seth is 3 and thought it would be funny to grab the phone and have me chase him. Then he threw. On the bright side, nice release.

No. His mother named him that cause she liked the name. I thought I should have gotten a choice seeing as she had twins and there was an extra but she was funny about that.

if you had mobile me service, you can use the find my I feature. It will show you where it is on a map, and you can remotely wipe data if you cant locate it. Call apple, explain you lost it and see if you can activate the mobile me even if the phone is not in your hands

No, total disappointment after I went to all that trouble to steal Lou's phone from him too.

Call and put a hold on the service immediately. You're responsible for any charges on your phone until you temporarily suspend your account. You don't need to get a new phone number - they'll just put your new number on the new phone and it won't work on the lost phone.

Is there a specific folder I can access now that I can see all of my stuff? I did have it hooked up to iTunes but never configured anything through my PC other than that, and charging phone.

And would this hold true even if I had my # changed? I wouldn't want my old # active if some knucklehead picked it up.
No, if you didn't sync your iPhone with iTunes at any point, it would never have made a backup copy of your data. If you decide to get another iPhone, plug it into your computer every week and it will automatically store practically all your data, including text messages.

If you change your number the person with your iPhone now will still have access to all the data that was on it at the time you lost it. Sucks, but that's the way it is. I believe Blackberrys can also by synced and backed up, too.

Thanks, I called and was transferred but the Mobile Me dept wasn't available by phone. From looking at the signup page though it seems you need to have set it up beforehand.

I suspended the service last night, saw it hadn't been used but the battery was dead I'm pretty sure, so even if someone wanted to use it they'd have to charge it.

Looks like to order a new phone you still have to pay full retail.

Iphones came w/ a new feature w/ the 3.0 release, if you have the MobileMe service.
The iPhone 3.0 software's Remote Wipe feature adds a measure of security, but it's not foolproof, and how long it takes depends on the device.

One of the big security-related features in the iPhone 3.0 software update—at least for those with a MobileMe account—is Find My iPhone’s Remote Wipe command. Should you ever lose your iPhone, you can log in to your MobileMe account on the Web and issue a remote command to securely wipe the phone’s data, making it unrecoverable.

                                                                  ...

The MobileMe service will attempt to locate your iPhone or iPod touch and display that location on an onscreen map. Using the Display A Message button, you can send a message to the phone's screen; for example, if you've lost your phone, "This phone belongs to Jane; please call 415-555-1234 for a reward!" Alternatively, if you've just misplaced the phone or iPod somewhere in your house, the same button can make an iPhone or second-generation iPod touch produce a sonar-like sound to help you track it down. (This sound will play even if the phone or iPod is in Silent mode; it won't, however, be audible if you're not in Silent mode but you have the ringer/volume turned down all the way.)
But the feature we're interested in here is Remote Wipe. Click on this button, and you'll get an appropriately ominous warning that proceeding will permanently erase all data and settings. You actually have to check an "I understand" box and then click another button to continue. The good news is that, as I alluded to above, if you end up recovering your phone or iPod, you can fully restore it from the latest iTunes backup by just connecting the device to your computer—a compelling argument for regularly syncing your iPhone or iPod touch with iTunes.
