I'm obviously asking the Americans this question as we don't have bail bondsmen or bounty hunters in Canada.

If you used a bondsman before how much did it cost? How does it work?

you pay them 10% of you bail, and you do not
get that money back. ie....if your bail is 10k,
you would pay the bondsman 1000.

I thought I was going to have to get one when I was walking the strip and was approached but at least 5 mexicans all with their little chick tickets. The one guy started yelling at me I elbowed him, fortunately the rest backed off. I certainly don't miss that shit downtown. I can't believe there had to be 100 of them slamming the tickets at ya between Tropicana and Flamingo on the strip.

        Horrible.

Never used one plommer. Got arrested for PI about 30 feet from my apartment in 1975, tossed into the drunk tank, bail was $117.50, paid it, eventually fined $57.50 for the offense, they tacked on $25 or so in court costs, got the rest of it back a few weeks later from the county in the mail. End of story.

No, Nina was a Southern Comfort inspiration. The night I got arrested was cheap old rodeo-warm beer.

Interesting, thanks for all the replies.

In Canada you only can get bail provided from someone you know and is a member of the community, this person is called a "surety" they cannot have a criminal record and usually don't have to put up any cash, they basically sign the bail papers agreeing to pay the bail amount should you skip town and usually they have a hearing in court to determine the amount the surety would have to pay should you not show up for court when directed - rarely does the court ask for more than 10% from the surety should they be held liable for you.

A Justice of the Peace usually approves or rejects prospective sureties depending on their financial situation - they must prove they have cash or assets of equal or greater value than the amount of the bail.

A surety can revoke bail for any reason, all they do is call the court and advise them they wish to be removed as surety and a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

Sometimes cash bail is set when someone is arrested far away from their home address or are not citizens of Canada.

Bail can be a bit more difficult to get here than in the USA.

117 bail? The lowest it ever is today is like a 1000, complete scam to keep the bail bondsmen rich, they know no ones gonna skip town for PI but charge bail just for the fuk of it

Also whats the point of bail for misdemeanors when they issue a warrant for your arrest if you dont show up, I mean hell unless you never get pulled over for the rest of your life your not gettin away anyway
