#179I'm not looking to talk shit about her.Originally posted by wikkidinsaneEveryone fuks up atleast once or twice in their lifetime. I can forgive her for this but this is not about her anymore here at SBR. Its just people looking to talk shit about an athlete and thats fine. As far as the mental health aspect of it. I dont like it being used loosely either.
She's a once in a lifetime gifted athlete that couldn't learn to live with what she couldn't rise above.
In her case her mental instability.Comment -

#181I guess claiming mental illness is the new excuse for quitting. Pathetic.
She was all smiles and talking with joy when interviewed after the fact. I didn't see any signs of depression or mental crap going on with her.
I smell a quitting a rat!! Sorry, just gotta call it as I see it.Comment -

WHEN does it end ? high school nicknames will be next.. bank it !!

Not looking to, but going to do it anyway.
Chick is what 24 and probably already has dealt with more pressure than most of us will experience in our entire lives. Probably been dealing with this for a long time, and penetrating up some move she could do in her sleep, was probably the straw that broke the camels back. Would love to see what the guys in here talking shit were doing when they were that age. Most stressful decision most of us were making was what bar we were going to on Saturday night.
Keeps see guys comparing her and Osaka, to Jordan and other male athletes. Not really a fair comparison since they are not men. Men are expected to just push through whatever mental pain and anxiety they might be dealing with. Hopefully that changes, probably wont have so many angry mf'ers walking around.Comment -

#189It’ll be interesting when the 30 for 30 comes out. There’s no way, no way it’s just “I’m not on my game so I quit, and I’m gonna pull the mental health card because it’s the cool thing to do” when these 2 maybe 3 olympics she will be in are what she trains her entire life for. I guarantee it’s nowhere near as simple as you guys are making it.Comment -

#191I’m sorry to say that I will remember her much more for quitting. You don’t quit just because you were failing. You get back on the horse. I remember Kobe missing like his first 10 shots in his first All Star game, got booed but he kept shooting anyway. He didn’t take himself out of the game. That was one of the most cowardly things I’ve ever seen in sports. At least Buckner tried to field the ball.Originally posted by wikkidinsaneI will remember her for her 27+ medals. Sorry this doesnt erase that. She is being truthful. Why did she stop in the all around? She was sucking hard and figured she would do more damage to her team than good at that point,Comment -

Wow! Not when it comes to pressure situations.
Pressure is what you make of it.
She quit because of pressure.
That's not going out of my way looking to talk shit about her.
She couldn't handle the 'next level' pressure.
You know, when the heat turns from medium high, to ultra high.
She couldn't deal with it.
That's not a knock on her, but perception is truth.Comment -

#205Ya, I get your point and I think you're in the majorityOriginally posted by Mac4LyfeKraken - I agree that many here were quick to criticize her and most likely because she is black and successful.
BUT, now I have to criticize her too. I don't give a shit what color she is. Kevin Love and thousands of others have mental health issues too. It still does not absolve her from quitting in the fukking Olympics. That shit should never fly. You are not just performing for yourself. You are representing your team and your country. That is bullshit. She used to be the GOAT in gymnastics, hell all of sports but she has fallen hard. Do you think Michael Jordan would quit on his team/country? Wayne Gretsky, Willie Mays, Cal Ripken Jr.? WTF?
She had a mental episode. So fukking what. Play through that shit. The story should not be that she pussied out. The story should have been... "I got really nervous, I thought about quitting, but I'm the goat, so I got out there and did my fukking job"
I'll be honest, its just not that important to me. The olympics, sports, games, etc.... I just dont place that much emphasis on any of it. In America I think we tend to put athletes on a pedestal and hold them to ridiculous standards for a fukkin game. And they get paid well for it.
But I just dont care about any of it. If her or the tennis player back out bc of mental health, or stress or pressure, thats cool with me. Doesn't change my life.
Maybe the fact its such a big deal to people shows people are putting too much emphasis on something thats just not that important
