#4I played hockey for about 12 years of my life and I thought it was dirty as soon as I saw it live and still do today. He was highly frustrated when he hit that guy. It’s equivalent to punching a guy after he dunks the ball when the game is over, hitting a guy after he gets a pick six and throwing at a guys head.
Dirty... anyone who has ever played hockey has been in a similar situation and you have to pull up. You knew the goal was in. When you see the skater cross the blue line without anyone behind him you know what’s happening. Ice still pretty open there and in general you try to avoid collisions near net. Closer to boards with puck still being controlled/grinded out the hit is fair game. Too much open ice in that moment to even act as if you weren’t going after him.Comment -

#23Boy that's a tough one.
Initial thought was cheap, not dirty
Unnecessary but not illegal
Watching the slow motion I'm standing by my Initial thoughts.
I didn't see him elevate or bring his elbow up in any manner to induce additional momentum. He of course had all the momentum, the Habs player in his crosshairs from the get go, but if Montreal guy has his head up he avoids this hit.
It's unfortunate but it's not worthy of any significant suspension.
Of note...it is NOT how you are taught to play, but playoff hockey is different and it is what it is.Comment -

#26The best revenge is to win the series. The rest is all bullshit...
Whether you make a case for dirty or not, there seemed to be intent to injure. Sheifele went all in on that hit and I can see a 10 game or more suspension.. Anything less would be an “ open field day” on “ cheap hits”..
Cheapest hit I’ve seen in over a decade.. 120 feet of speed and he left his feet during and after the hit. Both his skates were off the ice after the initial contact...Comment -

#31Looks like he left his feet a little and got his arms up. Playing hockey all my life (until 30) and major juniors, I would say its a clean hit. You could say its a charging penalty at worse maybe elbowing too. Things happen fast, but Evans didn't need that empty netter that bad in order to get drilled like that.
The after-effect of what they did to Scheffy reminds me of the NFL. Cleaning up the massive collisions in the sports. Evans didn't see it coming and had his head down. That's why they say from the time your 5 years old, always keep your head up..........
Hope he will be okay!Comment -

#34I remember in junior A tryouts one time. Dude I used to be friends with......we both played Defense. I knew how he played. He grabbed the puck in his own end and tried going Paul Coffey goal line to goal line with the puck..........(I knew he was going to do this and I owed him one from years ago).Originally posted by slewfanThe best revenge is to win the series. I literally went backward in my own zone to gain more speed. I was going full speed and totally destroyed him at center ice. He was flat on his back and took a few minutes to get up. I was standing over him. All I said is, I knew you were going to do that........try to be Paul Coffey. I chuckled and got back in the play.
That's hockey man. He had his head down for just a few seconds and he was a fast skater too. Never, never, did I consider that to be a cheap shot or a cheap hit. In fact, I think that one hit got me on the team (and I started game one) as a free agent off the street non-drafted.
Playing physical and aggressive.
This is hockey folks. While his intent very likely was to hammer Evans, why 10 games and why one game?Comment -
