Going back in time but defenseman #4 Bobby Orr of the Bruins was the Gretsky of his time. During a 7 year period he average a +78 a season! Also lead league in scoring twice! Almost 1000 points as defenseman and was as smooth as you will see on the ice! Serious knee problems more or less ended his career at the age of 27. What a shame!

You fellows surely must be too young too remember GALE SAYERS ?

The greatest kickoff returner [of all time] whose record 30 1/2 yard average is still the record today !

He also was the "prettiest " runner you "never" saw[the young ones] .

He ran with speed and deceptive agility, much like a graceful antelope !
Played only three good quality seasons because of injuries .

Career lasted about 5/6 years, however ,he sustained far too many injuries after the first three years to ever be the same runner again !

GALE SAYERS is the winner !

No mention of Mario Lemeiux? Missed so many games with injury, ended up with 1723 points in 915 games... that's 1.88 points per game.

Gretzky played in 1487 games and scored 2857 points; 1.92 points per game.

Give Lemeiux that extra 500 game and it would be really interesting to see who ended up on top.
