I've had plenty of fun spending my sons last weekend of summer vacation before he becomes a big 1st grader riding bikes and playing Transformers and G.i. Joes. Couldn't ask for more!

I bet it is, but I'm in no hurry! I thought it would take a few weeks for him to ride a bike on his own, but when he learned in 3 days, It was bitter sweet for me. Glad to see him grow, but realized I didn't have a baby anymore!

Would of loved to go this year, but was laid off in April and just found a job late July. Have no vacation until November so will definately make it next year.

I expected to experience some regrets for not choosing to attend, but actually I'm feeling none of that. I wish everyone at the Bash a good time, but I don't think it was for me this year. I've allowed myself to get too wrapped up in amorous attraction to a healthy subset of our posters and I don't think I'd be able to overcome the feeling of rejection I'd no doubt be experiencing at the event through no one's fault but my own.

I enjoy many people here, but in the end my attraction to fellow degenerates would spoil those platonic associations with the concrete reality that I'm not really part of the boys' club. You have no idea how much I wish this weren't the case, but it's an inescapable conclusion. Imagine having talked to a beautiful woman that you've spent a year falling in love with only to spend a weekend with her under the express directive that nothing will ever blossom from that love. That's how it is for me and so many of the very dear friends I've made on SBR.

The occasion of the Bash was a lamentable wake-up call for me at SBR, and I am compelled to acknowledge it for what it is. I treasure my time here, but I'll never be just another poster. That's why I'm not troubled by missing the Bash, while vicariously enjoying the experiences of those there who I am close to.
