Pizza delivery got me thinking, went to dinner at Nortons tonight formally Slades me and the girl spent $49 I tipped 15 bucks about 30%, last cab ride was $12 tipped $3 25%, last pizza delivery I think was $15 gave the guy a 20 33%, when you look at the percents I go above and beyond what most do, I am not cheap as far as tipping who else here is a cheap tipper big timer and middle of the road would like to hear it

I go 15-20% across the board for service.

Not bad gummo I go higher just because people in service induatries are often the most depressed people and life sucks rather hook them up, not to mention they DO 100% remember good tippers and your next delivery will be faster food and drinks will get to the table quicker on your next visit, and taxi drivers will get your bags or open door for you etc

I usually go to a restaurant near to the office, it's a fine place and the waiters already know me, so, even though it's something you never see here, I tip 'em with something around 5 bucks, which is pretty decent. If I'm on a cab, and I'm going very near to where I am, I usually give 'em 1 buck above the minimum rate, which is pretty decent as well.

I always thought it was 15% at sit downs. Some delivery guys have started to add in tips around here.

They actually already charge you a 10% on your bill for that purpose at restaurants. A waiter here earns approximately the half of what an american waiter would do because of that reason and because it is cheaper to go out to a restaurant here. It's also a cultural thing since we're not used to it, we rather shoot out a thankful smile and everyone's happy. Most places actually do not let waiters, delivery fellas, etc to take on tips. IDKW.

Good info! guess this is a testament to how money is so important in the US would be a better country if all your waiter wanted was a thank you and smile oh well

I think your right, but it's mainly a cultural thing, a good waiter will give you astounding service without expecting nothing back

No one should feel obligated to leave a gratuity. Tip to the level of the service.

If I get good drive-thru service at McDs I will tip the window server. They always look surprised

Lame... I know in the states is mere courtship to tip a waiter, but you're used to it, still, there's no way you can push it or get pissed off you weren't, not professional from those to fellas.

It depends on the service. I've tipped anywhere from nothing to 100%. Service is the key.

Even with the crappiest service I will give 20%.

A great effort and I am appreciative.

The way I look at is this....service is a crappy job to begin with, and they have to deal with all kinds of knuckleheads...so the gal waiting on me has another customer who is the biggest asshole in the place....and it causes her to slip some with her service to me....I can't hold that against her. Most of us here would drag those kinds of guys out of the place by their ankles and beat them---she or he--has to deal with them to keep their job. I give them the benefit of the doubt and they still get 20%.

Usually tip around 20% especially when I take the kids with as the waiter/waitress is doing more work with small kids. Don't forget about tipping at the buffets, I will leave tips for the person clearing empty plates there as well.

yah, people think I'm nuts when I leave money at a buffet, I even give tips to maintenance people when I need help, few years ago I was at the beach and got locked out on our patio, had to climb over the side and shimmy over to theneighbors balcony (we were on top level ina studio suite) I knocked on their window and they let me go through to go get maintenance because my ex was too afraid and just decided to stay on the balcony guy had to take the room door off because our swipe card was in the room and my ex was still locked out on the balcony. I hooked theguy up with a $20 for his help

If people think you are nuts to leave money at buffets, then those people are dicks. Those are waiters working the buffet, and most likely only getting paid waiter wage which is $2.21 an hour. It isn't much easier than waiting on a table. You still have to bring them drinks, you still have to clean up after them. You still have to do all the sidework involved with setting up and breaking down a restaurant... So you don't take an order and bring their plates. Big deal.

starts at about 15% and can go up or down depending on service

I have two young girls that often force me to give a good size tip because of their actions. Standard is 15%, but almost used as the floor unless they are absolutely atrocious. I do believe tips should be earned and base my % on the level of service.
