Who's the greatest football player to ever strap on his pads ?
ABENOSE !
But I will keep my "lock" pick quiet until I see several other SBR'S members losing picks !

Jerry Rice..the best FOOTBALL player of all time...he truely was a student of the game and would do whatever it took for his team to win. The difference between him and the 2nd receiver in history is not even close, he dominated.

If you had the Giants, the team you were playing would never have a successful field goal or PAT.

You fellows are dead wrong about not "one" player stands out among the top 100 players of all-time !
There is one that ranks there with Micheal Jordan as the icon of his sport,FOOTBALL !
And after the NFL wrap up I will tell you young'uns WHO he is ?

His name is.....JIM BROWN !
He averaged 5.2 yds. per carry on a 6'2" muscled bound 230 lb. frame !
BROWN had for his size ,great speed, along with awesome power !
BROWN "never" missed a game in 9 seasons in the NFL !
He led the league 8/9 of the years he played !
Paul Brown[ever heard of him],was his coach ,and the one season he didn't win the rushing title [there was a serious feud between Coach Brown and Jim Brown], and according to JIM BROWN , either I go or the Coach goes !
So guess what ?Paul Brown is fired, and the first year with the new coach,Collier,Cleveland win's the NFL CHAMPIONSHIP ,with Brown having a super season !
The next season,Brown's last at age 29, Cleveland made it all the way to the Championship game ,but lost .
Famed sports columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner Red Smith wrote ,"for mercerial speed ,airy nimbleness, and explosive violence in one package of undistilled evil , there is no other like Mr. Brown !"

You can't go wrong with Jim Brown. But Montana and Rice deserve a mention when it comes to rings, and Walter Payton deserves a mention because he was, indeed, the greatest man who ever played football. (RIP, sweetness).

your responce is exactly why i say you cannot just name one, football is the one sport that stands by itself as far as being able to name the greatest player to wear pads....all the answers are correct ones, you can't go wrong with any of them
