#42Sounds like the lottery takes about 15% and then the government takes another 40? Is that about right?Comment -

#46Before the government takes its cut how much do the lottery corporation's take? For example, if the awarded pruze is 100 million dollars does that mean the lottery company collected 115 million dollars or 165 million dollars? Here in Ontario I believe the lottery corporation's take between 12% and 15%Comment -

#56This is probably a dumb question but why don't they tax the ticket sales, rather than the winnings? Wouldn't the government's take B about the same in the end, and further incentivize ticket sales?Comment -

#57The payout wouldn't grow as fast if the ticket sales are taxed. It's a gimmick to grow the jackpot faster and make more people buy tickets.Originally posted by Jayvegas420This is probably a dumb question but why don't they tax the ticket sales, rather than the winnings? #58Makes no fukkin sense.(35..1M winners?: most ever!) considering how many fewer people play when the jackpot is this low (23M). It's because all the numbers are below 32 (calendar days more likely picked) but that's happened several times and it's never been close to this.
