Rarely discussed.....WINNERS have a POSITIVE outlook
.........and are negative towards themselves and others only on very, very rare occassions, if ever.

This is essesntial in being a longterm winner in this business in my opinion.

Would like to hear guys such as TryTryTry, Iceman, and others speak openly on this..........as these two gentlemen are positive++.

There are definitely some negative people who are financially successful in this business, but I wouldn't want to be any of them.

I wouldn't say that a positive mental attitude is a prerequisite to success, though. There are a shocking number of mental train wrecks out there making a fortune in every business.

Couldn't agree with you more. I don't bet to lose. I don't go to the book intending to lose. If my play or plays for the day don't cover, I'm thankful that I manage my money properly and eagerly look foward to the next day. If you're not totally positive doing this, it WILL affect your thought process and you WILL take unnecessary risks with your BR. I learned some very painful lessons doing this and now it's all good. I don't bash anyone or anything, because I know it was my decision to make a certain play or do this thing anyway. My plays and my BR are just that, mine. And, at the end of the day, I am the one responsible for what I've done.

Everyone has different methods to try and win. Compulsive behavior in most businesses will make you successful but not in the gambling business. A non compulsive personality is a must.

You just need to be compulsive about the research, not the gambling.

This strikes me as a gross over-simplification.

I can't help but relate it to bettors. I speak to quite a few winners privately and they tend to be admirable people with smart ideas and good work habits and philosophies.

Are they unusually positive though? It becomes fuzzy - particularly when you start relating it to public forums. Winners know what is going on and can recognize BS - and there is just plain a ton of it on public forums.

So what does a winner do? Do they try to spread good information? That seems positive. But what if it means discrediting someone else? Is that positive or negative?

Do they just let BS stand and try to be everyone's friend? It is easier and they can have more popularity. Is letting BS stand a sign of positivity or negativity?

In general, gambling and forums aside, I suspect everyone has seen how, a lot of times, the most positive people are simply the biggest twits or phonies or Used Car Salesmen.

A lot of times the smartest people are most susceptible to depression.

So as I say, the premise is an over-simplification.

The only time you get depressed after a poor day is if you chased and kept losing. Otherwise, everyone loses at some point and you deal with it like a pro or go bitch slap a hooker.

You always have to think positive. The book is out there to get you. You have to find where you have an edge and punish the book. I think of the book as my enemy who wants to harm me and my family. So when I make my bets I only think of taking the book out before the books takes me out.

Being positive has a tremendous impact on poker playing as well. Changes the way you approach playing so I could see where negative thinking can have people second guessing bets in Sports as well.

I would say the more accurate way to put it is winners don't tilt easy. If you tilt easy, you won't last. Does that correlate to being positive, maybe a little, but isn't the same thing.

I would say even more so for poker than sportsbetting.

I honestly do not try and read threads that talk about how betting sports is getting so much harder, that no can win at this and so on and so forth.

I know in the past that reading this negative stuff actually messed with my head a bit and it caused me to lose confidence in myself and what I am doing.

I found I was better off just staying completely away from even reading stuff like that and I think in the longrun that has helped me tremendously.
