Gary Kaplan-Bet on sports fed case resolved. Not a smart brilliant man!
Has anyone read the details of his massive profits through Bet on sports while it was still in operation? He was handling almost 2 billion a year in wagers and was expanding by financing and investing in new sportsbooks. He was a high school dropout from New Jersey and was brilliant enough to get the ball rolling but an absolute idiot who stayed in the game too long.He should have known that the government was going to come down on him like a ton of bricks using him as an example to others. He has to pay a 44 million dollar fine and him and his family members in the operation will be sentenced to prison time.I'm sure he has 10's of millions of dollars stashed away but who wants to serve a few years in jail because you got greedy? What's the difference if you would have gotten out clean with 50 million bucks or would have gotten bigger where you are worth hundreds of millions. Now he probably has less than he would have if he got out early and unscathed.

JJ,I don't recall you ever mentioning that you knew this guy.Lots of Jersey people here, someone must have known him back when he was a local bookie?

We have an exact case like this in Minnesota where a massive car dealer named Denny Hecker who came from absolute poverty made it huge and is now going to prison.

      Hecker's tragic story.

He came from a low brau family where he was in juvy homes for being a rogue kid.He had a knack for cars so in his early 20's he starts out doing well getting his feet wet in the car biz but goes bankrupt. He starts a new and becomes the largest car dealer in Minnesota by the time he's in his 30's.He has all the money he needs to live high off the hog for 50 normal lifetimes. He could have sold his dealerships before the big crash came along.Instead,he lived the fast life spending money like no tomorrow on fast women, fast cars, gambling and drugs. So when the economy hit the skids he got creative and started ripping the car companies and banks off. There are even alot of people now who thought they almost owned their car they had financed where they don't own anything and are in default of payments.

He was in a wreck with a fancy Corvette he had a few months ago when he was hammered. All of his relatives can't even stand him and one almost shot him at a cabin when he showed up a few weeks back.He promised friends he would front their restaurant loans and he left them cash strapped where they folded. He left a wake a mile long of people he ripped off.

I think he was friends with a similar guy from the twin cities named Tom Petter who was buying up companies like mad a few years back.He bought Polaroid,Fingerhut and Sun Country Airlines just to name a few.He came from a poor background too and was worth 100's of millions on paper. It was all smoke and mirrors creative Bernie Maddoff stuff he was into and his house of cards collapsed. He was one of the biggest gamblers in Vegas and was on his Sun Country planes flying weekly out there.Everyone loved the guy because for no reason at all he would see you on his plane and give you a free ticket to Vegas.Life of the party kind of guy giving comps away on other peoples investment dime.He looked like a leading man in the movies to boot.Smooth talker. Now he's Ben Dover in Stillwater or St.Cloud prison.
