Canada, eh?...How's our status?

Not to ignore the pain of our American comrades in light of the crap happening lately, but any fellow Canucks (Or anybody for that matter) have any updates on our situation?

Hopefully there are no plans at present for our government to adopt their own version of the online gambling ban, but just wondering if anybody had any insight. The last measure I can recall even remotely associated with this field was a private member's bill (Limited to Provincial, if I recall) a few months back to ban online gambling sites from being advertised in print or displayed at sport functions, something like that. Haven't heard anything since, so I guess it went nowhere.

Anyway, hopefully there is absolutely nothing at all on the horizon, but just looking for any insight from those who are far more tuned into Canadian politics than I am. I'm just wondering if some politician with too much time on his hands has thought to himself, "Hey wait a minute. Those Yanks down there are on to something....."

A friend of mine insists that it will not be long in coming. However I believe that as long as there is a minority government in power there is no chence of any changes in gambling laws passing parliament. Also, a conservative government would be much more likely to pass these types of laws, so mabe a good idea would be to vote Liberal next election.

I'm not sure what, if anything, is going to happen here. I haven't heard a peep since the Ontario bill you mentioned Stumpage.

As for something happening at the federal level...it would have to come from a conservative government as garyking suggests and they are unlikely to have a majority government in the near future. That party is still far too extreme for most Canadians to stomach. Don't forget it took a major liberal scandal for the cons to even win a minority government. If it had been the other way around with a sitting conservative government scandal and a liberal opposition, the cons would have been decimated in the next election. Its a lot easier for people in this country to move left than right it seems. just my opinion for what its worth.

Right now I am more worried about how the US clamp down might affect the industry and my funds that are in it. I want to draw down my balances now but with the uncertainty with Neteller, I am worried about money passing through there also. Not sure what to do exactly but I am leaning toward there being more safety in the major books right now than in neteller.

I have no news of a political nature.

What I can tell you is that Hollywood SB denied my Neteller deposit to my Canadian account yesterday and they are still not going to take it today. The CS person I spoke to was vague about the future prospects for any Neteller transactions at that book.
