A 'friendly' game is where the two teams are not meeting for any particular competition. It's a game used for testing players, fitness etc. The result of the game does not change or alter any competition/cup etc. To put it simply, I guess you could say, it's a 'fun' game between two teams.
Ireland for example are unbeaten so far in their world cup group (which included a game against Italy). However, they have lost their two friendly games to date. (Annoying but it doesen't change anything)Comment -
