OT - Matty Rain drives up the West Coast (Day 10 of Matty's Vacation)

*The drive from Cambria to Monterey (through Big Sur) is sheer badassness. I will come back one day in a proper car - it must be a blast to go through all these crazy hairpins at good speed. People seem to agree with me since I see tons of Porsches, several Ferraris and a lime-green Lamborghini Gallardo (that color sort of works on such a crazy-looking car).

*I wanna take back the superlatives I used previously, tone them down by an order of magnitude and re-apply "breathtaking" to that day's drive.

*I'll take 6 hours to cover 100 miles.

*Same scenario repeats itself over and over. My jaw drops, I take mental notes of the best photo spots, then I make a u-turn and go back to that spot. Lots of people are doing the same.

*At the end of the day, I have perfected my pronunciation of "holy ****ing shit".

I guess I take where I live for granted, I see that type of scenery on a daily basis and then some. Great pics though! I need to appreciate my scenery more, I guess.

I feel the same way, Flyer. I grew up here and I've been back for five years now. It's not until you see the wonderment on the face of someone seeing it for the first time that you realize you live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Last night in chat I showed Matt a picture of a guy standing in front of a giant redwood illustrating it's size (probably six meters in diameter) and he said it must be a fake. I realized that I take it for granted that such feats of nature exist because I walk/drive by them every single day. Can you imagine the amount of vacuum the tree needs to create just to get water 200+ feet up its trunk to keep the top growing? It's mind-blowing.
