OT: Can you remember your 1st bet?
There's obviously a lot of hardcore players around here, and a lot of successful people that have been wagering for many, many moons. So I'm just wondering: Can anybody recall their first ever wager that broke their virginity in the sportbetting world?

Personally, mine has always stuck with me. A $15 play on the Penguins and Sabres to go UNDER the total many years ago, as in when Tom Barrasso was still minding the net. Anyway, I remember it was 0-0 until about midway through the 3rd period, then a flurry of goals had me pacing nervously and cursing myself for basically throwing away my huge sum of money. Bet came in a winner though, and my wagering journey was underway.....

$50 on a college football game in 1999 I think. Michigan was playing, but I don't remember if I bet on them or the other team. Was at a euro sportingbet's main site.

First bet? About seven or eight years old. My grandfather used to give me some money when he could. This time he decided to pour his generosity into a bet he had little chance of winning, saying he could reach a certain number in a silly game throwing balls through numbered holes. I had been playing the game with my dad, so I knew my odds and immediately quadrupled the wager. I still remember the look of surprise on my grandfather's face. Later that night he got into trouble with the family for handing me that kind of money. I loved him dearly.

The first one I remember was on hockey. 1980.

The Habs had won 4 Cups in a row (I was a Habs fan in those days) and were in the quarter-finals the following year against the (theoretically) much weaker Minnesota North Stars. The North Stars surprised the powerhouse Habs by going up 3 games to 2 in the best-of-7 series.

I placed a $5 bet against a high school buddy that the Habs would win the last 2 games and advance. Even money.

Habs won game 6 but lost game 7 and the huge upset was complete.

I was both heart-broken and out 5 dollars.

Mine was a parlay on 3 NFL games on Pro-line (Ontario's provincially run sports betting scam) when it was in its first year back around 91 or so. It won and I never looked back.

First bet of any kind: at the old Boston Garden in the 1968-69 season, the last year of my Dad's life. He took me to a Kings-Bruins game, and the older man seated by me on the other side leaned over and asked if we would like to make a friendly wager on the game. I was 9 years old and terrified -- I knew what a con man was. He said "no, not for any money, let's all just pick the score." I picked 2-0 Bruins, and it was 2-0 late in the third so the man (if I remember right) flagged a vendor on his last run and bought me a Coke.

First bet for money: August 10, 1976 -- don't know why I remember the date, except that 1976 was a big year for me in lots of ways (I was 17). Rushed out of work and put about half a night's busboy tips ($10) on a harness horse, name forgotten, in the 10th and final race at the old Foxboro Raceway. (Grandstand sat at about the current location of the Patriots' bench, Gillette Field.) Crisp blue paper ticket jumped out of the machine. Horse ran about fourth, and I could hardly wait to go back.
