    Newbie Questions
    Hi all,

I hope that I am in the right spot. I am a beginner gambler and just have a few basic questions if anyone wouldn't mind chiming in .

1 - This is probably a hard question to answer, but how often are people successful at making money this way? I always see sports books as being very happy to take your money, but not so happy when withdrawal time comes. If someone is really successful year by year, will the book allow them to stick around?

2 - I've read that the break even point is somewhere around a win % of 52%. IF that is the case, how much should I consider 1 unit? I was just wondering what most people are playing with for each of their plays? This also may be a very vague question and depend on the each person financial picture. I'd love to win around $1,000 gambling, but am not sure what i'd need to wager each bet and how often (assuming i'm successful).

3 - This is similar to Question 2. If 52% is the general win percentage, should a gambler play the board? The way I see it is that the more game you play at 52%, the more money you make. But I also see this being much more research and time and thus leading to a lower percentage.

Any other newbie tips are greatly appreciated!!

about 4% of online gamblers actually make money betting sports over the longrun. As a long as your using a good reputable book youll get your withdrawals with no hassle. Just look at the top of the page for your list of books you should be using.

2 - I've read that the break even point is somewhere around a win % of 52%. IF that is the case, how much should I consider 1 unit? 53% is the breakeven point, not the average % of winners that people make. If you go 53-47 betting -110 lines youll be up a few bucks. If your trying to win 1,000 id assume that your going to be depositng about 1,000. If this is the case your unit should be 20-25 bucks. I no it seems low but betting is a marathon not a sprint. This allows you to ride the ups and downs.

3 - This is similar to Question 2. If 52% is the general win percentage, should a gambler play the board? The way I see it is that the more game you play at 52%, the more money you make. But I also see this being much more research and time and thus leading to a lower percentage.

As answered in question 2 52% is not the general win percentage it is close to the break even percentage, most people pick somewhere between 49 and 51%. So betting the board would be stupid youd be paying more juice into these lines by taking more wagers

Any other newbie tips are greatly appreciated!!

That is an awesome video, and great responses, thanks!

I realize that most do this for fun and recreation, but how does one becomes one of the lucky 4% who make money? Experience, research methods?

First, welcome to SBR...a lot of good people...a lot of great info...a lot of great cappers here. If you're a true beginner, run, don't walk and get Stanford Wong's Sharp Sports Betting book. Read it. Own the info in it before you place a single bet.

The keys to making money in sports betting:
                    1. Discipline - dont chase when you lose.
                    2. Beat the closing number
                    3. Money Management

1 - This is probably a hard question to answer, but how often are people successful at making money this way? I always see sports books as being very happy to take your money, but not so happy when withdrawal time comes. If someone is really successful year by year, will the book allow them to stick around?

Stick with quality books and you won't have any trouble getting paid. BetJam, Greek, Matchbook, 5dimes

2 - I've read that the break even point is somewhere around a win % of 52%. IF that is the case, how much should I consider 1 unit? I was just wondering what most people are playing with for each of their plays? This also may be a very vague question and depend on the each person financial picture. I'm not sure how you arrived at $1000 as what you want to win, but the important thing is to have good money management. You're bets should be a few % of your total bankroll. If your bankroll is $1000 and you're betting $100-200 a bet, you'll go broke in about 15 minutes!

3 - This is similar to Question 2. If 52% is the general win percentage, should a gambler play the board? The way I see it is that the more game you play at 52%, the more money you make. But I also see this being much more research and time and thus leading to a lower percentage.

This part is pretty simple. The answer to how many games you play is: You play when you feel you have an edge. No edge. No bet.

Any other newbie tips are greatly appreciated!!
                    Hope this helps!!!

A little bit of the 3 things u mentioned expirience helps. Watching line movements, watching where the moneys at are just a few tactics i use, as much as you think it matters knowing alot about the sport dosent do you too much. Alot more tactics that i can write books about and still have more to say. You can get alot of good info from Justin7 and vegasdave check out there videos off the sbrtv link on the main page. Any other questions id be glad to help

There is a poster here named jjgold. He is the bald guy in the vids. Click on his spreadsheet. Whatever he bets play the opposite. I have made $25,000 the last 9 months by only risking $100 at a time doing this. Do not cap games and do not look for any other posters plays. Fade him everyday and if you lose any money I will pay you $100 of my own money.
