O.T- Anyone ever get their testosterone levels checked?
Never in a million years thought I would be asking this question until just recently but anyways here we go.

I figured I would get some decent answers at this place because it is so busy and I would most likely run into a few guys out there dealing with something similar. I would have love to hear firsthand any stories anyone can share.

I am average build, very average shape guy. Nothing to talk about either way.

My mom had went to the doctor recently and found out she had high cholesterol so since I was getting older (38), I decided I should get some blood work done for the first time in my life.

Orignally it was going to be just a cholesterol test but since I was doing blood work and I was getting close to 40, the doctor suggested a testoserone test also after I told him a few minor details of me just basically feeling a little bit older. I was really more curious then anything to see what it was so I figured why not see where I stand with it.

Anyways cholesterol comes back a bit high, no problem, diet, exercise, the whole nine yards. The thing that really knocked me for a loop though was that my testosterone came back at 148, which according to the doctor is "EXTREMELY LOW". He prescribed me androgel and said we will do check ups on it from time to time.

Needless to say I rushed home and got on the internet and researched all I could on the subject. Now I am not sure this is the right way to learn about things medically speaking. The thing is if you look long and hard enough (and I did) you can find just about any type story that is out there, good, bad and ugly and believe me I did.

I pretty much was floored what they had to say about testoereone. I never really knew how important it is for a man to have higher levels. It had never really crossed my mind in the past when I seen anything or read anything about it. I figured at the very worst it was something you deal with when you get real old.

As I read up on it I would think Andorgel is the way to go, I am going to start this that day and I am going to feel better then I have in years, etc... Then minutes later I would start reading other stuff that made me almost sick to my stomach, the side effects, etc..

Anyways I stll haven't started taking it (been a few weeks since prescribed). I am getting a 2nd opinion later on this week but like all problems I thought I would ask my "gambling friends" if they had any expierences with all this, low testosterone, androgel, any of it for that matter.

First off low testosterone doesn't mean someone can't get an erection, so that isn't the problem at all. When I thought of low testosterone in the past this is kind of what I thought, it's not.

The thing is I feel pretty good (or at least I thought I did). I feel fairly energentic as I am somewhat a hyper person to begin with.

From some of the things I read most men go around with low tesoterone for many years, not knowing and they feel miserable. They then get treated and feel like a whole new person, more energy, more drive (physically and sexually) and overall just more youthful. Some say you even think more clearer. Which is all stuff that I never really felt I was lacking much more then say the average guy was. I mean sure who doesn't want to have more energy throughout the day but I don't sleep much to begin with and I usually feel pretty good but obviously I do feel older also.

The problem for me is I don't like taking drugs if I don't have too. I mean it's highly likely once you start doing this, you probably have to do it for the rest of your life and that would suck. In the end I am sure I will end up dong what the doctor says, which will most likely be using the gel and who knows maybe I will feel so much better.

Anyways I was wondering what others here know about any of this. I figured at the worse a little discussion on here might help me think of some more questions to ask the doctor in my next consultation.

    Thanks!!

Of all the things I've had checked out and tests that have been run on me since turning 50, I don't recall my testosterone level ever coming up in discussion. Either they've never checked it or the level has never been anything that caused concern for the docs. I'm due for another visit to my urologist and gastro doc in the mext couple of months and will have to ask. Except for the diverticulitis, so far everything has been fine...knock on wood.

That's good. Sounds to me you keep up with this stuff but if you are feeling a little less energentic, lower sex drive or even just feeling a little older at all I reccommend you just check it out to see where your at.

I guess places like GNC are really pushing this type stuff nowadays like testosterone pills and to the " feel good, need more energy" crowd, espcially with energy drinks being the big thing these days.

They say the average males levels drop one percent a year starting at age 40 (which would put me in the negative in a few years, LOL).

Like I said this stuff never in a million years crossed my mind until just recently and now it has me thinking about it all the time. Am I suppose to be feeling better then I do now? Maybe I have been low for years and I just don't know any different.

I have no expertise in the matter, but I will agree with what you said about researching online. It's a great place to go to learn more, but it's a slippery slope. Theres just so much shit out there, and anything and everything you read will scare you shitless. I think it's best to do a quick scan, learn the basic facts about the condition, and then go see a professional with your concerns. Any doctor or professional medical counselling will leave you in much better shape psychologically than if you try to learn everything on your own. They've probably dealt with a million similar patients in the past and know the best way forward as far as treatment and easing your mind.

I just turned 50 and got a similar diagnosis on my blood work. Doc prescribed a 1 ** injection monthly. Feel better, nothing earth shattering and it's alot cheaper than anything over the counter. I checked the drug on the web and there's really no adverse side effects unless you use it like a 'roid head. (I actually knew a guy at work that lifted and injected himself with bull testosterone, but I digress.) Like I said, the doc prescribed it and I checked out the drug and dose, so I'm cool with it.

any idea what your levels were before and after?

From what I have read injections usually are 2 times a week which would be a huge pain in the ass having to go somewhere twice a week for a shot. Once a month wouldn't be bad though.

you want raging testosterone??? i'll tell you how to get testosterone that'll seep out of your skin.

Step 1: When you exercise, if you do exercise, go heavy, dont be afraid of the weights. Do squats, deadlifts, and bench presses HEAVY. Those three exercises alone increase your test production by 30% each, squats a bit moreso. Heavy is the key, use a 4x6 or 5x5 rep scheme. You'll even feel hornier when you're done, so you know you're on the right track.

Step 2: Buy some test boosters from any supplement store. They often come tablet format. They are completely natural. Most are made from tribulus terrestris, a plant found in tropical locales around the world. Completel natural and safe. Side effects may include getting big muscles and women wanting to mount you.

I would go with what the doctor can prescribe. It will be pure and will save you a ton of money over suppliments. And if you want to put on some muscle, there is never a better time to lift then when you are on testosterone.

Got mine checked a year ago

                            550

Anything between 250 and 800 is normal. You can get T shots if your lower than 250 with a script (legal)

Yeah that option was considered and from what I understand you see results much faster with this, which I would be all about but from what I gathered most doctors prefer the gel as a first option to their patients.

Big Pharma aka the sickness industry.

Sickness is BIG Business, healthy people yield no profits and thus are not desirable.

20 years from now folks are going to be laughing at us over this whole steroid witch hunt. Men and woman today are using HGH as they get older as a replacement therapy. In most cases these are perfectly safe but you should make sure you see a doctor. As we age we are going to lose testosterone so we need to make it up somehow.
