What has been your worst bad beat of your gambling career?

Mine is easily 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs. Game 1, #1 seed TB vs #8 seed Columbus. I was on TB big because they were absolutely dominant. TB up 3-0 in the first period, only to lose 5-4 in OT.

Ok I got the score wrong. Point being, they lost by one after being up 3-0 and were huge favorites to win it all.

I get dealt JJ. Opponent 88. We both flop a set and turn river and wind up all in before the river. Only card in the deck that I lose to is the case 8 that sure enough hits.

Tough beat to stomach as it was by far the biggest game I ever sat at before or since. Not sure I would've if I did, but I didn't even have enough money for another buy in. Just walked home with my tail between my legs.

How could ATL only he -150 at that point?..Min. -300 sounds low even though it's against NE unless you're betting a live spread & not the ML. My bad I thought I read to win 5k.

Hate to be redundant cuz I posted this after it happened but back in Feb. I live bet Destanee Aiava to win the 2nd set vs. M. Inglis 1k to win $30 when she was up 5-0. Just trying to get my balance from $7470 to $7500 & call it a night. I posted back then right after the loss I'm probably gonna go on tilt chasing that 1k & within 3 days I went from $7470 down to $800 after repeatedly live betting Sloan Stephens & Shelby Rogers & losing over 6k at some garbage Acapulco 250 tourny. Only potential consolation is I got the $800 back up to $2700 & bet the whole thing on LAL-MIL Finals $2700 to win $8300 to hopefully undue all that damage done if shit ever resumes.

Capitals @ Kings on March 11, 2017. I was in a hotel room for business bored as hell so I put $1k on the under at 5.5 here at a pretty good price and those roosterlicker Capitals got a penalty with less than a minute left in the 3rd with the Kings up 3-2. Capitals get a penalty and then the Kings score a PP/EN goal with 2 seconds left on the clock. They fired it from one end to the other and they went to replay to see if it went in before the buzzer. It was like it was going in slow motion.... 4-2 win Kings... -$1k for me and the last time I bet on NHL.

I was on New Mexico a few years back vs UNLV in college hoops. That game UNM led by 25 or so with maybe 10 mins left, and 15 with 2 mins to go and 10 in the last minute I believe. I had a terrible day, and bet above my head to have this happen. Couldnt believe what unfolded.

Had about 800 bucks on an over in Sacramento (cant recall who they played) where the Kings hit a 3 to send it into OT (where it would be a sure winner as only 5 or 6 points were needed) & this clueless ref who was about 2 feet away from the shooter said he didnt get it off in time. There were clearly at last 3 tenths of a second left when the ball was released. Before reply. I went on a 5 mile walk that night late to burn off steam.

I’ve had so many over the years but I’ve learned how to have thick skin and short term memory so I don’t dwell on them. This takes a lot of practice. I’ll be furious on the inside and will get super down for a couple minutes then it’s in the rear view. No breaking shit or temper tantrums. Have lost on buzzer beater half court banks and every other possible crappy outcome. The two that come to mind were when I was in college 13 years ago. I thought the gravy train would never stop after a very hot start out of the gate in poker and sports betting.

This beat isn’t necessarily a terrible beat but it hurt like hell. 5dimes 10$ 15 team Sunday baseball parlay to win 100k. First 14 games hit and I’m left with 45 minutes until the last leg of Sunday night baseball. White Sox at Texas Rangers and I had the Sox who were on a roll and pitcher John Danks who was a local Texas boy with 100 friends and family in the crowd. I was too poor to hedge much, put 2500 on Texas +1.5 to try and middle. I pondered calling my dad etc but given 45 minutes there really wasn’t any options. Danks got shelled and the rangers were up 10-1 after like 3 innings. I didn’t get out of bed for a week.


A few months later I was in a 5000+ person poker tourney on poker stars. Winner made 50k and runner up made 30k. I was the overwhelming chip leader for the last few hrs of the tourney and huge stack at the final table. I had friends watching me play for over 5 hours at least. It gets down to final two and I have 7x his chip stack and I call an all in with AJ and he had A2. 2 on the river hits and I am furious but still confident. I offered a 60/40 chop and the guy told me to fack off and that I sucker and he was going to take me down blah blah. Another tough beat on an all in then eventually lost. In my head I should’ve been up 50k and this was unacceptable. My friends were all so impressed that I made a small fortune for a college kid on like a 100$ buy in but i was still fuming. I took my 30k and entered one of the higher limit games they had. I believe blinds were 250/500 and most had stacks over 200k. I got pocket aces preflop and raised to 5k. Guy with a huge stack tried to bully me and shoved all in. There I am with the best hand in poker absolutely terrified but at the same time I’m a good player and know the odds. If I folded this hand I may as well have quit the game for good. Guy turns over 10/9 diamonds. Rainbow flop with one diamond. Sure enough, runner runner flush. All my friends who had watched for 5 hrs couldn’t believe what they saw. Didn’t get out of bed for 2 weeks.
