Honestly the whole country outside of NY metro area is doing just fine. We'd all be back to normal if NYC would obey.

Instead, we get 20 planes per day here in FL of NYers and they spread it here or take up our hospital beds.

that isnt the point of the lock down. the point is just to slow it from spreading so ppl are less likely to die from hospitals being overwhelmed. i would think ideally they would want the infection rate to be just below what hospitals can comfortably deal with. then when when enough ppl have immunity to naturally slow the spread, they can lift the lock down.

alternatively, they will have to have another lock down next winter if they havent slowed it enough since the vaccine wont be ready to be mass produced by then.

A video that leaked in the very early days, in one hallway at one hospital I counted a dozen bodies. I think their official number for the whole day was like 14. 21 million did not die though. Should that not have been the purpose though? If we had done it in early March we'd potentially be just about clear of this thing. I agree it will likely come back in the fall. If it does that is ballgame for the economy. Deep depression with likely millions dead, and I'm not talking about from the virus.

With the potential for mutation a controlled spread is very risky. You can end up with something much more deadly at some point if you simply accept it is going to infect everyone and only want to slow the spread for hospital capacity. It may well do that but an attempt at mandatory lockdown along the lines of what China did was the right thing to attempt IMO.
