Federal judge denies Ncaa/nfl/pro leagues injunction to stop delaware sports betting
Basically the leaguies tried to stop Delaware from getting started in September as the case won't be heard until oct-dec todays ruling means that Delaware will have sports betting on single games and parlays until AT LEAST Mid October unless they leagues appeal todays decision and win which is dam near 0% chance of happening.... providing one link for a funny spoof of todays decision and one real story
Delaware has its vendor it has the green light from the state courts and now the federal courts have said they can go ahead at least until it goes to trial, should have minimum a month to hit one of the racinos to check it out even if they do eventually take away the single game betting I'm siked

    USA TODAy article http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2009-...-betting_N.htm

I am very doubtful that in my lifetime, I'm 40, that we will see much Legal sports betting outside the current status quo. Sad but I feel that way and it suks.

Could be right General but as of late there have been great pushes against the establishment that opposes it... which is always a good thing... I think delaware will win this case and have vegas style betting indefinitley but find it hard to believe that NJ will be able to overturn the PASPA and get their hat in the ring.... Looking like Delaware will be the east coast Vegas for all us in DC, Baltimore, Jersy, Philly, NY etc

They know the more legalized it is the closer watchdog eye will be on it. The donagheys will all come out of the woodwork in every sport, they say they fight it to protect the integrity but in reality they are trying to cover up the crooked shit by banishing it to the depths of the illegal bookmaking underworld

Both delaware Park and dover downs have it predominately placed on their websites now, Dover even goes so far as to say Racebook / sportsbook opening September 1st and has daily hours

Stay, play, and win at Bally's Dover Casino Resort, the largest casino in Delaware, featuring thrilling gaming, modern hotel rooms, dining, entertainment, and live harness racing.

lottery, horses and casinos are fine so it's a definite hypocrisy on behalf of our Government.

                      General,

Imagine the money the government could generate if they got into the sports betting business and quit trying to fight it. Last I heard the U.S. is looking for revenue streams. This one would be a doozy. However I share your opinion it probably won't happen in our lifetime certainly not in mine.

It will be interesting to see if the pro leagues can stop it. I do not know what argument they will have oppposing it. I think they will at least make it through football season as courts take a while.

The NFL owners screwed up their own efforts. And the Fed judge yesterday pointed it out. The NFL owners have entered into relationships with state lotteries, and better---some owners own gambling interests.

Tough for them to argue against the rights of Delaware to self-govern when the NFL can't clean up their own sandbox.

The bottom line is---the NFL and the other leagues HAD TO act this way. They knew they would lose this case, and they will lose every appeal they attempt. But it had to be done for PR purposes.

I see the NCAA, in its infinite wisdom, came out yesterday and said it won't play any championship games (not sure of the exact wording) in any state that permits wagering on single games.

As I've said countless times before in similar discussions, if there was a way the NCAA and NFL could eliminate all wagering on its games, including office pools, that'll be the day television walks away and games are played in front of crowds of a few dozen. Because no one will give a damn who wins.

I can't wait for the day when Delaware starts up, which in turn is going to lead other states to do the same thing because they will see how much money they can collect without calling it a tax. Then before you know it, the NCAA will have to play all its championship games in Utah. Good luck with that.
