Out of all the evidence released, none of it says Pete ever bet against his own team, so really what do I care? As long as there's no tanking, what's the big deal? You should be allowed to bet on yourself. The average athlete/manager/coach is so overconfident, if they let them all bet on their own teams Vegas would just rake in a lot more cash

So he was a jerk with a gambling problem? So was Michael. Idgaf, reinstate him imo

No, no, no, a thousand times no.

Rose was a compiler, by that I mean he played 24 seasons, if Jeter hung on for 2 or 2.5 more years he would have caught Rose.
That all time hit king label is a tad deceiving, he averaged 194 hits per season.
Rose was in an All Universe lineup that featured Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Joe Morgan, Geronimo, George Foster, my God you had no choice but to pitch to Rose.
Let's put that 194 hits per season into perspective, Vladimir in 16 seasons averaged 195 per.
Jeter? Try 204 hits on the average for 20 years. That's 10 more hits per year than Rose.

I can list 20 more players who average more than 194 hits per season, but I won't you get my point.

Lastly he broke the cardinal rule. NO GAMBLING ON BASEBALL.
It's written in every dugout in indelible ink for all to see.
      You can't miss it.

Yes Chico, a giant piece of shit.
      Charlie Hustle, no.
      Charlie Hustler, yes.
Steve stop. Why didn't the other guys play 24 years?

Bones starting to ache, they've had enough of the game, too many reasons.

Sure. Rose loved the game. He should be in the hall. Baseball has stupid double standards.

            This I agree with.
Once you take away the owners power of selecting the commissioner a lot of these types of problems will go away.
Like the Astros get away soft yet the Shoeless Joe Black Sox are still banned 100 years later.
If you put Rose in you must put the Black Sox in the Hall as well.
Double standards, you got that right.

Good thread! And don't ever forget, he is responsible for a great quick little joke too.

Pete Rose sat on a tack, Pete rose.

if he bet on his team to win every game that would be one thing but there were games where he DID NOT bet on his team, that says alot right there, that he wasn't confident in them to win would give a huge edge to whoever was taking his bets, put him in when he is dead

If you bet on your own team though you can alter the way you use players especially pitchers, you risk players health and the teams long term chances by overly focusing on the current game it is a long season.

Without a doubt. Baseball is full of arrogant, hypocritical, pompous fools, who think that their shit don’t stink. The culture created by the writers, and higher ups is a disgrace to sports. They love to judge others with a fine-tooth comb, and act like every man must be infallible. It’s a complete joke. Put in Clemens, McGwire, Bonds, and Rose.

Rose needs put in first. He waited long enough. Served his punishment already.
