#73Originally posted by WvGamblerMy old man is a Bird guy. Talks about him and Roberto Clemente like they’re holy entities.
I wasn’t old enough to watch him play, but I will say he had that “Mamba mentality” before Kobe was alive. From everything I’ve heard/read, Larry Bird was as competitive as anyone on earth.
He’s the most competitive mf I’ve ever met, everything was $100 minimum, darts, drinking, horseshoes whatever the fukk you can imagine
Overall great guy, I think there was enough Budweiser at the ranch for all of IndianaComment -

but he played in an ERA with 8 teams
do you think it was harder or easier to have a dynasty with a few hall of famers on one team before free agency back then?Comment -

the following season another hall of famer joined the team in Sam Jones, the year after that another hall of famer in KC Jones joined. they had 7 fukin hall of famers on one damn team. imagine that today
So do we really give credit to just 1 guy in a situation like that?
yes: his name is Red AurbachComment -

#81Wilt was the most dominate player in the league for years also was Shaq.. They owned the paint.. Kareem wasn't to shabby either..
Teams FEARED these big men and they get no LOVE.. If I had a young Kobe or Jordan to start out my team or a Shaq, Kareem or Wilt in their respective times I'd build my team around those big men..
If I were taking a pure shooter today to build my team around I'd take Step Curry probably over Kobe and Jordan..
It's a tough call with all the times and rule changes with hand checking and what not and number of teams, etc...
The most dominate players in their times were Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Jordan, Magic, and probably Kobe.. Larry legend was tough too..Comment -

Wes Unseld, Nate Thurmond, Bill Russell, Elvin Hayes, Willis Reed, Gus Johnson, Paul Silas and that's just looking at tall black guys at the top 15 of the rebounding list one year from the 60's
wilt played in the 60's and 70's not the 40's and 50'sComment -

#92Originally posted by blankoblancoUm, what? In the 80s people wouldn't have believed Lebron was an actual human, his physique would make many NBA pros look like children. You think he wouldn't last in an era of greater physicality? Are you on crack? He would have ended men's careers
What a hot garbage take
they were rail thin and no one lifted back in the day.
Kareem fukin weighed 225 at 7'2
people talk about Barkley being big ( I guess he was back then), but early on he really was below avg sized compared to today's players. its weird when people compare him to zion to me.

#103Oscar Robertson benefitted from being in the super stat inflated run and gun era
the year he averaged a triple double the league averaged 109 shots per game per team. last year it was 89 shots per game per team.
that's an almost 20% increase in shots meaning there will be availabilty for rebounds, points, assists for the players.Comment -
