I bet you could buy an MLS franchise for a quarter of that. 50 million a year is absolutely crazy. MLS ratings are horrid. But I am sure this will sell more tickets. I wonder if the league is helping bankroll this to kickstart it. Tiger is going to have to demand a raise.

This was coming for a while, maybe this is what MLS needs to further their rise in ratings. USA soccer will never be the same. If it works they will thrive from now on, if it doesn't work - MLS is finished.

Soccer isn't geared towards the US market. Timeouts make US sports attractive to advertisers.
Really think people would be pissed off about 'This is our country' if you could just walk away for fifteen minutes between halves?

Bingo! Its a vicious circle. Soccer won't take off in N America unless it gets more TV exposure and it won't get that unless there are enough viewers to make the tiny amount of advertising you can fit into soccer games pay off.
