How has SBR chat been working??

The chat has been better but there are some problems from time to time. It seems they are less frequent than previously but there are the occasional lag periods.

I believe that ITH is referring to the ability to embed SBR videos and Youtube videos in the chat room directly rather than a link. last I knew I think SBRtv vids still didn't work when embedded into the room. Then again, I haven't tried in quite some time.

I finally started checking it out this weekend and it seemed to work well. Some of the regulars said that when it gets over 20 people in it, it crashes frequently, but it never got to that number of people, so I didn't observe it.

Overall it was pretty cool. Another fun way to interact.

Every time I go to chat it freezes after 20 min. I need a new F5 for my keyboard. It's frustrating when you type something and you hit enter and it doesn't record. It's like talking to someone and every 10 seconds they say: "What? I couldn't hear you."

In addition to the above observations, which are all accurate, the biggest conundrum I've seen recently is the Room List failing to update entirely. Very often when people leave their name doesn't come off the list of chatters, sometimes those that are chatting disappear from the list for no reason, and sometimes when people enter they don't appear to begin with.

Now I realize this is for the most part trivial compared to the problems you guys have solved so far (thanks for the dedicated server!), but until you've talked to someone who isn't there for 15 minutes, it's hard to grasp the frustration. Then they actually return an hour later and ask "Did I miss anything good?" and you realize you have to repeat everything you said before, you lose your sanity if it happens a couple times in the same day.

Pavy's got a good point about how frequently chat doesn't post the message you type. It seems like a freeze but it's just a failure of the server to pick-up your message if there's a lot of simultaneous traffic at that moment. Those of us that are regulars mostly know about the Shift+Up Arrow command which retrieves the last thing you typed to submit again. Pavy, try and remember that for next time and I'll remind you of it if I'm there.

The sbrchat.com URL stopped working a few weeks ago as well. Nobody I've asked seems to know when it'll be restored, either. Not that I frequently need to bypass the forum, but occasionally when I'm on my spare laptop I don't have all of my shortcuts/bookmarks synchronized, it's handy to be able to have a URL for each aspect of the site I need.

That's all I can think of at the moment. People are correct about the SBR.tv embeds having been broken for some time now, ever since the last round of upgrades to it, maybe six weeks ago. It's not a huge issue to me, I actually prefer the links and then I can manage the video in its own tab.

Thanks for inquiring John! I know I'm not the only one for whom chat is the best part of the site, and it's nice to feel that SBR cares about our experience as well. The strongest democracy is one with a respected and vocal minority.

if you accidentally hit the back button on your browser, they go back into chat, your type does not appear, however you can most times view others comments. I am using Firefox. Sometimes when you click to pm someone, they disappear from the list, then you need to click on someone elses name to make them reappear in the list. Sometimes when you post a vid from youtube, the chat will stop scrolling down

A sports ticker is an absolutely brilliant idea! Especially if it were like JJ's, where it showed a featured book's lines for games that were still on the board, and the scores of games that are in progress!
