What a bleak program this has been the past 15 years.
ONE bowl game in that span, and they lost that affair.

Funny as to how that can effect some schools. I think i some ways Kentucky's basketball program has hurt their football at times but I think Florida's football has helped with their basketball.

There was a player named Levron Williams from my hometown, anyone remember him ?
My son and I went to see a home game at IU game playing UNC,back in 98/97,?
This guy was the whole package,6'3"of power and deceptive running ability .
In that game with UNC ,Levron looked like a 1st team all-american,and that was only his Soph year in College !
By the time he is a senior he was averaging 6 yds a carry,a record at IU .
Then he got hurt somewhat in the early mid season ,then floundered from there on .
End of career !
Just another jinxed story about IU Football !

Many schools prioritize their AD budget based on which sport has developed into their strength over many years. There may or may not have been a conscious decision to concentrate on one sport over another but once it's evident which is the stronger they seek to maintain and enhance their strong suit at the expense of other sports.
As regards Indiana specifically, I am not sure that Knight himself wasn't critical to the success they had there. But since his departure their AD has botched the choice of replacing him with Davis, then compounded that by hiring a cheater in Sampson. I think Knight ultimately drove a lot of Indiana talent out of state and the university has been unable to win them back. If the coaching situation stabilizes this may change.
The football situation will likely never change as that is/has not been their priority and I guess it's very difficult to change from a BB school to FB school or vice versa. I'm sure they'll try and rebuild the hoops program with greater care and better judgment than they've demonstrated since Knight was booted.

Excellent post !
This post hit's very close to home .
Bobby Knight's reign ended 10 years before his departure, and after more disastrous decisions by IU administrators,IU has floundered ,and descended into LOSER'S VALLEY !
Once in that PIT of LOSERS,It brings "all" the Sports programs into a web of mediocrity !
And "that" is where IU is today .
And Tom Crean ?Why can't IU bring an IU graduate in that was a proven winner ?

And will remain that way, even in spite of the downturn of the real sport at that school, hoops. Just no way in this day and age to get good players in the Big 10, outside of the powerhouse schools.
