ok enough. they weren't called grade 1, 2 or 3 back then. it started in 1978 when he was about done. no shame in not having a graded stakes horse. hundreds of trainers haven't had one. he hasn't ever claimed to be a gambler but has knowledge that pertains to it.

You're not going to beat the races other than by betting big money offshore, using arbitrage programs and getting sizable rebates. If you're going to the track or OTB, approach it as you would craps or roulette; nothing but entertainment while hoping to get lucky. This doesn't apply to the Triple Crown or the Breeders' Cup races; those are beatable but there are only 17 per year and it's a long term game.

Agree that's why exotic and multi race wagers are so popular as you can spread a bit and if you hit it's a good win...And yes the big boys get huge rebates ive seen guys get 11% at certain tracks...But I will disagree with statement that only BIG races are beatable....I'd argue it's more the opposite due to so many variables on big races such as different track, shipping in travel and time between races...If you follow a circuit many times you will find cheap claimers in right spot that are near locks
