I never watch soccer except for stopping on games for a couple minutes here and there when channel surfing. All you see are dainty stealthy cheap shots where the guy on the receiving end of them goes down in a crumpled heep crying. It's like watching opera. Why don't they mic the players crying and encourage the crowd to play opera tragedy music instead of waving those bee hive sounding buzzinggizmos.Maybe then it would be worth watching soccer.Even the green card, red card referee penalty dealie is faggy.Who started these leagues,Tom Ridge ex director of homeland security? Please don't take offense where you want to pop me English Mike. You have permission to rag on alot of american sports with constructive critisism.

Yes, the players crying about fake injuries is old news. They all do it (some more than others) and it does take away from the game. Just to correct you, it's a YELLOW and RED card they receive and that system although it does have its flaws, works very well. Also, receiving a Red card does not automatically award the other team with a peno.

Despite the fake injuries etc, etc, I still find soccer a more interesting game than American Football, Baseball, Basketball etc.

I will soccer tackle BrentCrude at the Bash, then kick a ball at him as hard as I can from 20 ft and if he is lucky head butt him like it happens in a soccer game dozens of times. If he doesn't scream or cry that means soccer players are faking it on the field.

Pavy you can defend soccer for the great sport that it is all you want, but you can't really argue that there isn't quite a bit of diving/embellishing going on.

It's much harder on your body than you actually think. I played yesterday for an hour on my league and I have bruises, my big toe hurts and my shoulder blade is killing me. I also have a big nasty carpet burn on my knee. Sure most of it is because I'm 38 but if you think all they do is dive you need to play the game and have someone constantly kicking you on the shins or bruising your thighs with steel studs.

Oh I don't think it is easy at all. It is brutal. The physical shape these guys are in to have the endurance they have is incredible. I'm not saying there isn't real pain.

But the percentage of players that take a kick to the shin and fall to the ground grabbing their shin and screaming compared to the guys that get kicked in the shin and let wince really hard and play on increases quite a bit when the penalty shot is a makeable one.

There is cheating in every sport. In basketball they flop or make the contact look like a charge. In football the wide receivers are initiating contact to get a flag thrown for pass interference. They also have the famous tuck rule and the encroachment calls where the OL is actually flinching to get the defense offside.

It's not fair to isolate soccer as the only sport where cheating is done. The refs are actually giving a yellow card now to the player who dives in the penalty box so if you do it twice you are out of the game and probably the next two games. So they are trying hard to eliminate cheaters.

There's no doubt that flopping originated with soccer. Then it spilled over to basketball and football. But the trickery in soccer is at another level. They find ways to grab someone and then go down as if they were grabbed. Only way to get rid of this is replays (because ref can't see this in one take) and automatic red cards. Not yellow. Red.
