I got this little guy that chews my welcome mat on my back porch. What is it?

I didn't know ground hogs were that big. This guy is probably a 30-pounder.

                  Maybe it's a prairie dog?

Don't kill him else you might feel the wrath of Peta. According to them, he now is a part of your family and you are now responsible to feed, clothe and house him.

I'd be very surprised if he weighed even close to that. Photo below is a 20-pound cat, and I'd have to put this rodent's weight below that.

My cat is 19 pounds. He's smaller, and scared of the "groundhog".

That's quite possibly the biggest woodchuck I have ever seen. I believe you are having your own personal Groundhog Day. I've been told that they get up to 30 pounds in areas devoid of natural predators, but that's an eye-opener to be sure. Get yourself a raccoon trap from the local humane society and relocate him is my suggestion. They're natural vegetarians, so you could buy some alfalfa as bait, but you're probably better off just tearing off a piece of that mat and then hiding the rest.
