The Health Ministry on Friday said the deaths occurred in June and July in the towns of San José, Cartago, Limón, Guanacaste and Heredia. The victims, aged from 32 to 72, include 14 men and five women.

The Health Ministry said it believes the toxic alcohol circulating nationwide are counterfeit products of registered brands. Because it is not possible to distinguish the counterfeit product from the real one, the ministry said people should avoid selling or consuming the brands.

Costa Rican officials seized about 30,000 containers of the Guaro Montano, Guaro Gran Apache, Aguardiente Estrella, Aguardiente Barón Rojo, Aguardiente Timbuka and Aguardiente Molotov as part of an ongoing investigation.


"The Ministry of Health continues to carry out operations throughout the national territory in order to reduce the exposure of consumers to contaminated products," the ministry said in a statement.

The deadly consequences of drinking alcohol mixed with methanol depend on the person's weight, whether that person is a habitual drinker and the methanol concentration in the drink, according to the Health Ministry.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that methanol consumption can cause a wide range of adverse health effects including headaches, seizures, kidney failure and death.

What do you consider cheap? Vegas hotels employ a racket called a "Resort Fee" that can run you anywhere from $10.00 to $45.00 per room per night. The more your room costs, the higher the Resort Fee. A friend of mine just got back from Vegas and told me that he got a "Special Friend of the Hotel" rate of $34.00 plus the Resort Fee of $35.00 per night. Some deal.

a trick that use to work and maybe still does is you call the marketing dept. of say total rewards, tell them either you use to play with them many years ago or that you usually play at a Mlife casino and you want to come back ( or try them )
You don't have to oversell yourself, but tell them you play for 4-6 hours a day ( slots, BJ, craps, etc )

and you are looking for a casino rate, what's the best deal you can offer on a room

as far as food, you can eat cheap in vegas

but like bigdaddy pointed out, they get you on the resort fees, almost no way out of it unless you are RFB
any of the normal nice places will get you for $35-$45 a day ( those $10 or so places are mostly dives )

Visited Puerto Viejo on the southern Caribbean coast two years ago. Also spent one night in San Jose (last night there to help make the flight home a little less stressful). Had an amazing time. Glad this wasn't an issue at that time. Would have certainly out a damper on the trip....

Yeah I know - roll the dice with tainted alcohol that can kill you or just abstain. What an idiot!

Costa Rican resorts usually give you the option of all inclusive or not. The last resort I stayed at was the Andaz Papagayo and even without booze the all inclusive is a better deal. You can also just rent a house.

They will look you up in the system and see no play history and call bs on the story.

Book a trip and if you play with a card, before you check out go see a casino host and see what they can pick up. If you play, they usually will pick up room charges.
