I like the Phil Steele magazine and get it every year. A very thorough resource.

Only problem I have with it is a lot of the info for the 1st 50 pages is him talking about how good he predicted things 5-10 years ago. If they got rid of that nonsense they'd have enough room to increase font size and keep the magazine the same number of pages.

Couldn't agree more. The mag has a few good features but unfortunately it's virtually unreadable--between the micro-font, the endless bragging, and the avalanche of useless info (like what some obscure scouting service ranked a player coming out of high school). A good editor could cut out at least half the magazine and it would be twice as useful.

Sometimes less information is better- quick read on all the teams- Steele’s magazine gives too much useless info like trends from 10 yrs ago. Get a good grasp of the teams going in and watch as many games as you can going forward- college football is beatable unlike most pro sports like the nfl.

in phil's defense, the gigantic amount of info in his magazine is a big differentiator in the market.

here's an idea for phil: publish two magazines. his standard one and one more like marc lawrence's (or somewhere in-between)... if i bet for a living, i'd probably hire a student to reformat phil's magazine myself.

Ya'll are too harsh (except when calling out child rapists). For people just starting to think about college football seriously, Phil Steele is a great resources. It will at the very least teach you how to, at the end of the season, highlight teams capable of major win increases/decreases the next season.

For a new punter, that's a great way to begin thinking about gambling.
