Seriously, air bet for a while and keep track, see if you would've won (unlikely at some point), and realize what you've saved. And getting back in won't change the eventual juice drain. Then spend some of that not lost money on something you enjoy. H & B, if that's your thing.

Meanwhile, if you have more free time, focus on whatever else you enjoy. Shooting pool, outdoors crap, family/kids, whoring around, whatever.

But first reach the point where you realize "I'd be down xxx right now and always trying to get even".

For me poker actually mostly keeps me away from sports betting

I get my gambling fix, but still I have an element of control as far as the outcome (or so I like to think).

this IMO is the best strategy. Fact number 1 you should realize long term winning is possible but highly unlikely. Fact number 2 it is difficult to quit if this crap is in your blood.

when I first started gambling and had almost no money (just started university) I actually bet more money than I had. It was finance company and banks and borrowing. I can't tell you how much I lost. Because I was such a degenerate gambler the owner of the shop where I gambled asked me to take over the book because his partner became ill. Small enterprise, not many gamblers at peak season which was college and pro foot maybe 40 to 50 tops. The money was unbelievable, very few losing weeks. no losing seasons. I gambled by booking and I made up all my losses and more and I realized by watching these poor suckers that long term winning was difficult. After the shop shut down I still gamble but my plays are very small. I might toss 500 on the Super Bowl and the same on the final college championship game.

you can still get a bang out of wagering using a smaller amount, and you won't be tossing the remote at the TV when your Monday night bail out game goes down the toilet and you lost 2500 for the week. that is completely stupid.
