Why did D Blair go so low in the draft?
Is he only 6' 4"? I thought that he was indeed one of the best college players this past year.

size was one factor... but many nba teams were very wary of the fact that Blair had ACL surgery on both knees in high school, despite that he never missed a practice, and only missed on game in his college career (for an ankle).

Blair got into the best shape of his life for pre-draft workouts, I think he'll have an ok nba career with that kind of workout ethic... reportedly he lost 30 lbs and gained more strength in the process. Been working hard on his jumper. He still got paid first round $, so all is well that ends well

chi archie is correct, it was the issues w/both knees.................if he can stay healthy, which is a big IF, then san antonio got themselves a steal

you have to remember that Blair's reach is that of a 7'2 inch man..

it doesn't matter how tall the top of your head is in basketball, that's really an irrelevant measurement.... it is how long your body AND you arms are.... and Blair has freakishly long arms.

that's why he could dominate a 7'4 guy like Thabeet

            1.) No ACLs,
            2.) Height
3.) Shelf life is only ~3 years or so given the status of his knees and the stress he'll put his body through compensating.

That said, I personally think he's going to be quite impressive off the bench for San An. He's a rebounding MACHINE. Paired up with Timmy D or McDyess (who both have excellent 15-17 ft. jumpers) he's going to get a boat load of rebounds, offensive and defensive. Very smart move by the Spurs. ~3 years is also about the window they have to win another championship or two, given Duncan and Gino's ages.

in his first pre season game

Blair played 22 mins grabbed 19 rebounds, 8 of them offensive

scored 16 points had 2 assists and a steal....

Spurs will be very very very tough this year, if Blair is able to contribute 8-10 points and 8-10 boards off the bench this year.
