Weight of money does change lines.

But how much of it at a single book, eg. Pinnacle? (No injuries)

Depends on the sport and who's betting it.

I know it doesn't really take all that much to move pinny's tennis lines, because I move those with just a dime wager sometimes.

At most books they will let what they consider squares bet as much as they want on one side and not move the line. But they will move the line with just one bet from a very sharp player.

At Bet3.65 probably £5 (That's presuming they allow you that amount on)

Depends when you bet it too. Put $1,000 on an nba game as soon as the line goes up, that might move it 3 cents at Pinny, $5,000 an hour before it tips probably doesn't move the line a cent.

Just takes one bet. Doesn't even have to be a lot of money. If a player can move the line regularly at a major book (so that other books will follow the line movement), he's in good shape. Like hitting the jackpot. If that ever happens to anyone, don't think of it lightly, but protect the winning record at that book.

I just read Jarhead saying he and a friend used to try and place action under the 10k radar by going around to several places with bets just under the threshold. I think he said sometimes they would see it cause a line move and others it wouldn't, so I think jj above has it right when he points out that it would depend on the book . . .

It also depends on the limit at the time for the particular game and a particular player. NCAA basketball totals, for example, come out on Pinnacle with very low initial limits, and a maximum bet from someone who is profiled as a "sharp" however they define it, will move the line a lot with very little money actually bet. The dramatic early NCAA hoops line movements that are common on Pinnacle are caused by repeated small but maximum bets. Later on, when the limits are much higher, it takes more money to make a maximum bet. It's more about bet size relative to existing limits than how much actual money is being bet.

You can bet the value of your house on an NFL game at game time and it won't move a cent.

Bet $1000 on McNeese St. vs. Central Arkansas 1h total NCAA hoops, and it may move 15c.

It moves 9c on every college total opener I pop for the limit and if you pop it twice, sometimes the line will move an additional 9-11c in vig (9c has been the minimum vig move on the opening college totals all year for me).

On the opening college sides, they'll move it anywhere from 8 or 9c up to 12c if you max it right when it comes out. All are circled but some are 1k limits and some are 3k limits, so that is probably the reason for differences (It moved 11c on an apporximate 2k bet I made on the Kansas/BC college game for a scalp with the other side at the Greek)

So if certain people place wagers - books would react to the player as well, can't say they would react to my action but it would be nice one day to cause some line movement.

Maybe a group of you on SBR have that sort of power already.
