Does anyone else miss his show/material? i thought he was awesome. The Black KKK episode was 1 of my favorites. i heard he did a show in Portland, and is thinking of making a comeback.

Show was fantastic. Saw his stand-up right at the peak of his popularity and it was dreadful.

Not even close. His stand-up was great, his show was good but was so incredibly overhyped, overquoted and overplayed that it turned into pop culture hysteria and lost any edge it would have had. The fact that comedy central completely destroyed many of Chapelle's ideas and intentions leaving about 6 minutes of good material per episode would have Chapelle himself tell you how weak the show got, and was the reason he left.
His stand-up however was real Chapelle. He was able to say what he wanted to say and do what he wanted to do. He raised the level of "black people do this and white people do this" jokes like only Pryor and Chris Rock did before him by actually making them funny. His blend of satire and off the wall stories made his stand-up some of the best around.

If with religion you mean belief system, your belief system is your religion. Again, it matters not what it is. You believe in it, you are loyal to it, would defend it, and yet have no proof of it, other than that, at one point or another, you chose to believe in it. Self-hypnosis. What if there were a snapping of fingers that broke the hypnosis?

Sorry Stale but I have to disagree.
His show was awesome but you're right. Once every douchebag on the block was doing their best Chapelle-Lil Jon impression everywhere you went, it became tedious.
But his stand-up just never got funny. I waited. And waited. I got the whole message precursor deal. But it never reached a joke. I love Pryor (Chris Rock sucks) but this was no Pryor routine. He was obviously well into his "rumored" crack binge at this point and it showed with each incoherent "joke" that he spit out.
But yea...loved the show...

I do not find his act amusing at all... I am more into guys like Doug Stanhope and Joey Coco Diaz.
