3K seems like an awful lot for a used golf cart. I purchased a really nice gas powered cart a few years ago for 2k.
If you shop around, you might already be at your goal, and not have to risk losing your balance.

Easier to throw stuff in cart to bring down to the boat and back
Rods, coolers, beach stuff ect...
