Why do books list game times in PST?
Sports on TV lists EST (unless local). Sports in the newspaper, on internet news sites, etc. always lists in EST. Why do a majority of sportsbooks list pacific time? Their offices aren't in that time zone. I doubt west coast bettors outnumber east coast bettors (at least to the extent that they would change the process).

Seems odd that a majority of the biggest books (Pinnacle, CRIS, etc.) list games in PST when the standard is EST.

Maybe I'm just a grouchy easterner who doesn't like doing math, but having different sites using different time zones, having pacific be the most common of them, and not making them adjustable in user settings is certainly not optimal, IMO.

Yeah it's been a pet peeve of mine that these books don't let you customize options such as time zone.

The only reason I can think of for them using PST is that most software companies are based on the west coast, so that is how the program is set.

The Greek used to use Central Time, which was confusing.

Maybe they still do, haven't played at their shop for awhile.

Don't know how that works when it comes to Day Light Savings Time. What I do know is they are on EST currently.

That's always been a burr in my butt, too. I always figured it was because Vegas is on PST, but I may be wrong.

Greek may be on Indiana time-- EST but no DST, so it appears to be central during the summer. That's how it was for me, at least.

no biggie really, as long as they use East or west, start doing central and mountain , then I have a problem !

Set to one coast or the other is good enough, we know when games start, I don't think we need Greenwich mean time, but East or West is cool. I've missed a game sometimes by this, but not enough to get to pissed off.

They probably use Pacific time since that is the time zone of Las Vegas.

All you have to do is add three hours for east coasters and it will grow on you and become regular.

It's fine the way it is now and if they were to change it that would be like the bookies are playing mind games with you trying to switch things up and using tactics in an attempt to get you to lose money to them.

You have to pay attention at all times.

Books really should allow the user to customize it. It isn't rocket science to keep a "time zone differential" constant in the software for each user. Let me set my own time zone. BTW: I'm in CST. So, I am always converting EST & PST, a double whammy.

Correct, but they dont change with daylight savings. So in the spring they will be 1 hour behind Eastern , sort of like Central time for 6 months and Eastern for 6 months.

Until you look at a book on ET and get screwed up

The worst was last week when I went to vegas and checked the lines on Pinny. Instead of just reading the time I was adding 3 hours (by habit) then subracting 3 hours back to understand what time the game really was

You guys are all fine in America. But one day I was pissed off because I missed one match (my time is 9 hours against pacific) so I setted all my clocks to pacific/pinnacle time. Fine, no more missing bets. But now I missed closing hours at shops and restaurants many times!

                                        GMT would be the best.

If SBR Odds would add an option to set game times to our own time zones, that would solve the problem for everyone, including Europeans.

The Greek uses the time zone of whatever island they're on, which doesn't use daylight savings time. So they're the same as central time during the summer, and the same as eastern time during the winter.
