A muckraker is term for one who investigates and exposes issues of corruption that violate widely held values, such as political corruption, corporate crime, child labor, conditions in slums and prisons, unsanitary conditions in food processing plants, fraudulent claims by manufacturers of patent medicines, labor racketeering, and similar topics. The muckraker must be assertive and never take no for an answer because he knows the truth is out there no matter how much those in power tell him otherwise. It is named after Raiders a former poster who sought truth. The muckraker investigates issues when there appears to be no reason to do so. The muckraker challenges the status quo and conventional wisdom even when it does not seem prudent to do so. The muckraker is the ultimate bet against the public player. He knows that buried inside all those files is the truth and that is what he seeks no matter the cost.
