I don't know, but that's an insane amount of cash for winning one poker tourney, especially for those fortunate enough to have won their way in by way of satellite or through a succession of low buyin online MTT's.

Last year was $9,152,416 for 1st, but it's still 3rd biggest payout for Main Event in history.

Not sure if you're aware, but there is a worldwide recession going on.

heard on the radio about 500 people got turned away yesterday trying to register last minute for day 1D. The Rio has space for 2700.

I'm baffled as to why any big time pro would've waited so long to register. They must've been trying to satellite in, instead of putting down the 10 grand.

World Series Of Poker is not really a big deal anymore other than becoming rich

It means nothing and has no bearing if you are a good poker player. It is just a lottery now.

Not many people want to pay $10,000 for a lottery ticket....only way I'd play in the WSOP would be qualifying through a satellite, regardless of how much money I had.

Guy bets over one million and over sometimes on ONE sporting event, he can afford it.

Ivey is probably the largest consistant(at least one bet per month) sportsbettor in the USA.

I know for 100 Percent Fact that a lot of guys just cough up the 10k to play in it. One of my best friends lives in vegas and play poker professionally and 10k to him is like 5 bucks to us. Must be nice to be a multi-millionaire at the age of 24

Poker has become an arena for heavy drinkers and an arena for dead beat dads and an arena for guys trying to mimic pros but without a clue there are 52 cards in. Fukkin deck.

                              HUH?

There are hundreds of well known players........how many players did you know at last years final table in the main event???

The $50,000 HORSE event is the REAL TOURNEY for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

To win an event with over 6000 entrants takes a TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF LUCK.

I believe half the players at the final table last year were pros:
Chino Rheem (been pro for over 10 years with 7 cashes at the WSOP, well known cash game player)
Ivan Demidov (only player to ever make the final table in the WSOP US & Europe Main Event and did it in the same year)
Peter Eastgate (Before winning then main event he was already an established pro, making the final table in the 2007 Irish Poker Open, cashing in the 2008 European Poker Tour, Copenhagen, also cashed in the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure.
                                Scott Montgomery
(5 year pro, final table at the WTP's LA Poker Classic, 6 cashes in WSOP totaling over $3 million)
Kelly Kim (6 previous cashes at WSOP, with 3 cashes coming in 2007)
Ylon Schwartz (12 career cashes at WSOP)

I wouldn't argue between the payout of last year and this year if I won let's just put it that way!
