oh sh*t *****, for a few weeks a year ago I was obsessed with this sh*t, Nortenos, Suenos, these fukkin sick gangstas are the coolest new sh*t in a while.

I STILL can't decide which side I want to support. What are the respective pros and cons of Nortenos and Suenos again? I can't remember.

The Norteños formed because the older Sureños showed no respect and often mistreated Latinos from Northern California who were over-whlemingly involved with agriculture. They felt that taking jobs tending and harvesting crops was detrimental to "la raza." Thus the roots of the Northerners are in hard work, family values, and promoting the Hispanic community to become land-owners through a mutual-aid society which can help them secure financing for acquisitions to improve their life.

The Southerners on the other hand are the city-slickers. The guys that come to this country to move drugs and operate theft rings, making their living through means which are unique to urban areas. They consider themselves more polished and more savvy to the ways of the world, but they also have more enemies because of how they go about their business.

This isn't to say the the Norteños are goody-two-shoes. We get our hands dirty too, but there's a different motivation behind it. That's why we call ourselves Nuestra Familia (Our Family), it's about love and respect and self-determination. The Southerners call themselves the "Mexican Mafia" and that's an accurate reflection of their tactics and state of mind.

I've always been partial to Nuestra Familia because of the reasons that have been stated. Their philosophy brings out the better half of you sort of speak.

I also dont approve of the way the Southerners are trying to adapt and modernize in ways they see fit into the dark sides of society. However,since I've always been 'balanced' in the way i go about my business, i remain partial to both sides of the spectrum if you will if only to learn and then gage what you believe is right and wrong.

Since there are alot of gangs that typically have brothers that are not necessarily engaging themselves in thought, people are easily misled and what not. There is always a better way and so you give em that push to see things in a different light. I admire your instincts to do this. Good read.
